As a Persian, I do not agree with Sama!...
We use "Mosh" instead of "Mouse", not "Hamster"!
Although A hamster is a rodent (like mouse) belonging to subfamily Cricetinae but in Persian we call this animal: HamEster... exactly like you say in English, but with difrences in pronunciation.

criceto Italian
hámster Spanish
It is an American made word so most languages like Dutch, Russian, or German do not show a change of the word.
It is just signafied with "the" infront for example French is Le Hamster.

confident, I agree. Even in Canada we are saying that human beings do no longer talk a similar language. all of us have diverse meanings for issues. yet another occasion is the french spoken in Paris is amazingly diverse from that spoken in Quebec, Canada. i think of all of us make a version of English. I nevertheless have self belief that the British talk actual English! ?D

There's no Japanese word for a hamster, so people just borrow the English name and pronounce it Hamusutaaaaaa!! (ハムスター) or Hamu for short!! (ハム)
That's why the hamu in the TV show is called "Hamu-tarou"!! (ハム太郎)

There's no Filipino term for "hamster" so I'm afraid that most Filipinos would just call it "daga", a Filipino term for rat or mouse.
If there are Filipinos who are reading this post, please correct me because I'm quite ashamed with my answer hehehe.
