Religion is a philosophy of life.Psychology attempts as any science to rediscover facts which make emotions work in a more positive way thru behaviour study. It is based on discoveries and inventions, and is a continuous process.Religion was established when there was anarchy of some kind, immorality and destruction everywhere. The philosophy laid its rules and ethics based on that particular time, which has no scope for invention and discoveries of facts based on the current situation.Religion is not a process,it is a ground laid for people to believe bahave and act in a particular way for humanity and its longevity.Science is universal. Religious teachings differ, but all the religions say one thing--peace.Religious fights have created wars, and science has created atom bombs.Science is matter and religion is space.

Many religions purport to higher callings than simply "making people...happy." Also, psychology as we have developed it so far doesn't work very well.

Psychology isn't even meant to make people happy. It is designed to achieve equilibrium. It is designed to make people not unhappy. Often happiness is also a casualty of the medicines used to prevent depression and other negative deviations from equilibrium.

Psychology is a scientific study of behavior. This is not even remotely close to religion. Religion is believing in something spiritual. Supernatural, and applying it to your life.

FYI to the above posters, psychology is NOT a study of chemical imbalances in the brain. Psychiatry diagnoses and treats behavioral disorders, and neurology diagnoses and treats neurological disorders.

I hope you mean philosophy. Psychology is a medical science relating to chemical imbalances in the brain. It's not about making people happy. It's about making people mentally stable.
