A chef's salad is what ever the chef puts on it, but it's usually hearty, with boiled eggs, ham, cheese, tomatoe, sweet onion, romain lettuce, with a creamy dressing, like thousand island.

MMMM chef salad. I use a ranch style dressing.

To put on a chef salad? Definitely use romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, various veggies to your tasting, cheddar cheese (chunk or shredded), turkey chunks, ham chunks, and egg. Delicious salad!

generally a chef salad has cold cuts on it like ham and turkey plus cheese and fresh tomatoes. as for dressing, I really think it's up to your personal preference. I think honey mustard dressing goes really good with them.
