I've noticed with my anxiety that I tend to tense up and get anxious when I'm around my sister. I love my sister, but she thinks she is the queen of the world...she puts me down constantly, and I am just as pretty as she is...she just likes to have control..I think I need to get away from her for awhile...any advice?

Yuppers!!! I used to have panic/anxiety attacks around my mom's New husband. Hes a mean, unthoughtful asshole and he has this way of making you feel like you matter less than the scum at the bottom of a pond.
Make sure when you are around your sister that you try to avoid caffiene before and during your visits with her. Caffiene is an upper and you don't need the EXTRA acceleration of your heart. Anxiety attacks cause your heart to beat rapidly as it is. Try and take deeps breaths and remember that you are seriously better than what she says.
You might want to schedule some counseling just so you can get your thoughts out into the open. Talking usually helps target the exact cause of anxiety... ya know beyond the bigger picture that contains your sister.

Yes, she puts you on the defense-I am like that around my mom. No matter how hard I try I just can't relax aroung her because I am always expecting a put-down or remark. She is a control freak. It has nothing to do with you really. I think you need to try to accept her the way she is or try to have a heart to heart with her. You can choose to get a way for awhile-there's nothing wrong with that. Good luck

Anxiety is caused by the inability to choke the living s**t out of somebody who really deserves it. I have found family members to be a leading cause of this.

The answer is YES! These people are "toxic" and it's a good thing that you're questioning the way you feel when you're around her..

Tell her how she makes you feel. It she disregards your feelings, make yourself scarce.
