First answerer: It's called a machine! The artists get kind of grumpy if you refer to it as a gun.

Most definatly tattoo's.You have to remember that at the time the Bible was being written there were entire cultures of people around the world who had different beliefs and religions. From China to North and South America. We also know that it was custom in some ancient civilizations to use tattoo's as a way to show honor and strength in battles and deaths of various tribes.

"Otzi the Iceman", a frozen prehistoric human discovered in the Austrian Alps in 1991, has 57 seperate tattoos on his legs and lower back. Scientists speculate that Otzi died around 3300 BC.

The modern bible was adopted by the Nicene Council in 325 AD.

Tattooing is much, much older.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention something:

Leviticus 19:28 says, "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord."

Obviously, if the biblical translation is correct, tattooing was around in biblical times.

Tattoos are most definitely older. As marbledog pointed out, the iceman had tats. I think us bald ground apes have been doing that stuff for as long as we have had the ability. That's why it's so cool. It's primitive, modern, and self defining all at the same time. You have to know when to stop though: some of my friends look like painted pin-cushions.

Hmmm... I've been searching Wikipedia... It tells us that Russian duo t.A.T.u. put out their first album "200 по встречной" came out in 2001 but Boo Hewerdine's group "The Bible" came out in 1986... So it would seem to be the Bible hands down...

But we mustn't forget the immortal Tattoo as played by Hervé Villechaize on the TV show "Fantasy Island", which débuted in 1978...

So my vote goes for Tattoo!

Depends on your definition of each. If you define the Bible as any Word of God, it debatably predates tattoos. If you limit it to its current incarnation, then tattoos have been around far longer.

The knowledge of God is older than tattoos. However, tattoos have been around longer than the published book.

In the beginning of John (the gospel) it says that Jesus was the Word (Bible) and that the Word was with God before creation. So, the Bible.

Tattoos have been around ever since cave dwellers got dirt in a cut and realized they could adorn themselves. Humans do like to trip.
