She is requesting a RSVP by phone. I want to RSVP, but what if the husband answers, what should I say? I don't know if they have caller id.

Dial *67 before calling and your number will be blocked.

Do you know if he works days and maybe she does not? You could call during the day, and if he does answer you can ask for the wife and speak to her. If the husband has problems with his wife having guy friends then he doesn't deserve a party:) Most of the time when adults throw surprise parties, the other one has a clue and it'll be OK. I'd suggest to just call and play it by ear

Oooo, that's kind of tricky. Maybe you could find the wife's work number or only call during the day when you know the husband won't be there? If the husband answers just talk to him like to chat or ask about golfing or something, but at the end tell the husband "Oh, and would you tell your wife I said hi for me?" and maybe she'll get the hint?? I don't know really.

Dial *67 before you call, that will block the call. Then act like a salesmen and say that you need to talk to the women of the house and ask for the best time to get a hold of her. You sell lingerie, by the way.

If he answers ask him a question.. make it seem as though the call had a quick and easy purpose.. like.. is your electric out?? say yours was but it just came on.. or what ever.. then call again the next day at a different time.. or you can say that you have a laundry question for his wife.. or a cooking question..

Say, Hey, can I speak to "wife's name". Then make the wife think of some way to explain it. If I was planning it I would have a plan for that sort of thing.

Just say something like "I heard you have a birthday coming up and just wanted to wish you well." Then you could ask him to tell his wife you said hello. Hopefully he'll tell her and she'll get the point.
