If the Adam and Eve story is to be believed then we should all be much more similar, since we would all be fairly closely related. If there has only been 6,000-10,000 years that we have been here since then; then how are the vastly different peoples of the world explained. That is just not enough time for people to evolve that much.

We are so diverse because we live in different environments ranging from the cold polar regions to the hot tropical forests and so we have developed different physcial appearances, different cultures, different perspectives, different gods, differents religions etc. And we've been here for much much longer than 6,000 years.

It is much worse than that!!
Apparently animals and people did not eat meat before the great flood and Noah. So we have entirely new species evolving (the carnivores), not even simple different races. Science has a name for this, its called Macroevolution.
Anyway, yes the 6000 yr christian creation myth is just wrong, and is shown to be such by millions of independently verified evidence from around the world/ages, throughout all the various disciplines of science.

The only explanation in the differences between body types and skin tones is a long drawn-out evolution that saw humans wandering over much of the globe.
Africans living near the equator grew dark to avoid sun damage and grew tall and lanky to run faster in the open grasslands.
Mountainous people grew short and squat, able to lift and carry heavier burdens than grassland people. Their shorter stature also helped with circulation and respiration in thinner air.

The idea behind it is that we should see each other as related.
We should treat one another as bretheren.
The story goes on with Cain and his brother Abel...(talk about it next time)
Maybe you should take this story as a metaphore at first, I think.

Look at dogs. There is way more variation there. There are so many different breeds, and they can all still have sex and make babies!!
