ok so i've seen some ladies do it too, but my boss just walked up, took a sheet from the news paper, went to the mens room and was in there for just about 3 minutes, but i just wonder, why? why the news paper, is it a warning to other men that you're going to poo and that it might stink in there??
Any insight?

i understand that it gets boring in there at times, but you're not in there that long.. you couldn't possibly need the whole sports section. maybe it's just a way for them to take a break when they aren't scheduled to take one... hum... people are funny!

Ok, here is the real reason!
I lot of men get constipated real easy. Men are heavy eaters and sometimes do not chew their food like they are supposed to. So, inevitably they swallow whole pieces of food making the food particles larger and that makes it harder to pass through the digestive system.
So, by taking a newspaper into the restroom when performing #2 the reading takes … Let’s say… ones mind off the natural track of what they are specifically sitting there actually trying to do! Because of the discomfort one feels when a bow movement has arrived the reading takes your mind off of the actual event taking place.
That is until the smell of the movement intensifies. The smell can distract the reader and then that person is likely to fold the paper over the iron bar that stretches on one side of the stall wall.
Now! With all that being said. There is a variety of people who become neurotic when performing # 2 in a public restroom. Especially a busy public restroom. This is the person who will take the Newspaper into the stall to shake it aggressively when another person enters the facility. I’m almost positive that the shaking of the newspaper is intended to be like a rattlesnake coiled up and hissing protecting its space. Or, the shaking of the newspaper might just simply make another noise to cover up the sound of gas noises.

that sounds like a good reason or maybe they want you to think they are reading the paper and that is why it is taking them so long. Perhaps they have an agenda for the bathroom time.

Men just like to do something other than sit there when in the bathroom. My hubby told me once why should he stare at the wall when he can read a magazine.

i find it funny that the answered above me mentioned shampoo and deoderant bottles, i always read those
the real answer to your question is, and this may be rathe crude
but ok, sometimes the best way to get one's stomach muscles and intestines to relax, is to take one's mind off what is happening
its a relaxing mechanism, and things then flow more freely

that is a good question. i think its a waning symbol 4 them saying not to go in there after they're done. for safety precautions whatever.
