I'm having problems posting; so excuse me if this is a repeat.

My son's father is no longer spending time with our child...he was there for the first 10 months; but has decided that he no longer wants to be involved.

He never revealed our son to his family. I was trying to get him to do it, but he didn't. Now that he is choosing to not be involved, I want to contact his family (I don't have a relationship with them either) to let them know that their family tree has grown. I would like to invite them to his 1st birthday party or at least a brunch the day after. How do I approach this? I am not doing this out of spite, in fact I have no desire to discuss his fathers and my relationship. I just believe in family and I want my son to have access to his family.

YES, YES, YES!!!! My sons fathers family didn't know until the day after he was born. I called them and told them, which was the best for my son. They were sooooo mad at my Ex, but they were over-joyed with a new grandson.

Go for it...they have every right as Grandparents to see their grandson and be part of his life if they choose to. You might want to approach them in a letter to tell them

i would! they have a right to know! what if , heaven forbid, that your child developed some rare disease and you didn't know if it ran in his father's family??? apologize for telling them sooner, and explain why you didn't. good luck!
