light candles and put on soft music, preferably with no vocals.
use massage oil, not baby or mineral oil. use a sheet that you don't mind getting oil stains on to cover up anywhere you're not working on. a mat on the floor is probably preferable to a bed...a bed has too much give. when your partner is on their stomach you might want to put a pillow underneath their upper chest and forehead to raise their face off the floor but still allow them straight neck alignment (as opposed to turning their head to the side)
you can read ahead of time techniques from library books to get a general idea what to do. Get "The Massage Book" by George Downing if you can, it's great and I recommend it highly.
the important thing to know is to massage fleshy areas only, never massage where it's just skin over bone. spend extra time on the feet, it feels great. be very thorough, go over everything several times. concentrate on the back, neck, shoulders, scalp, and limbs.

Use massage oil or baby oil. Work everywhere from head to toe, and alternate from fingers, palms and even use elbows for deep penetration. Alternate as needed to keep from cramping up. Also go slowly, make it a tease as well as a relief.
