Hinduism is a philosophy/way of Life. You don't need to get "baptised" or anything to become it. You just join when you join, by living a certain way, by thinking a certain way.
There are many schools of thought, with nothing stopping even more...anyone can find a new way to achieve the goal of Moksha and if it's a good way, he will get a lot of followers e.g. like Buddha did. Normally when there are lots of followers it gets a new name, like Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism....
You can pick and choose which books you read, whose views you read, how you "do hinduism". The main thing is, there are certain key points to the whole deal, such as the cycle of rebirth till you attain a stage of purity and peace and do right by yourself and everyone - that stage is called Nirvana - and when you attatin Nirvana, then you get released from this endless cycle of rebirth - this is called Moksha. Finally you can be in your pure form and not bound to the earth in a physical body.
You are not forced to pray to this god or that god, or convert others to go to heaven etc. etc. Infact, heaven itself is simply release from the miserable rebirth cycle.
Good Luck. I think you'll do fine. Hinduism is clarity of living. That's all it's about. To understand yourself and understand others, till at some point, it's impossible to do wrong to anyone, hurt anyone and fall into misery or depression - because your mind is so clear and you are at peace with yourself.

Well, you should buy some good books on Hinduism, do some research to find out what the religion requires by way of action, belief, etc. Read as much as you can. Visit a Hindu community center, temple or ashram and meet with some Hindu people. Get to know how they live their lives daily and become completely familiar with the lifestyle.
Then when you're completely satisfied that it is for you and you know what to do, simply proclaim that you are a Hindu.

Usually you don't "become" a hindu....you can practice hinduism...there are temples through out the US and people are very willing to help you. However, hinduism is something you are usually born into ...I personally have married into it ...so I had to go to a special office in India with my husband (because he is hindu) and get a certificate that states I am hindu. It's the only way I can get into some temples in India.
Good luck!

Go to some Arya Samaj temple in USA or a Sanatan Dharam temple. Meet the priest and you can be converted to Hinduism by some rites.

Find a temple in your area and go there. You can talk to the people that attend. or go to your local book store and ask for a book on the religion of your choice.

Just belive that an object created by man is God and start worshipping it. It can be any non living thing such as a stone, tree, sun, moon etc or any living thing like a snake, rat, cow etc.
