I am going out tonight with a guy that I told last week that I cannot date him because he is a devout atheist and I am a devout Christian. I must hold true to my beliefs in the Bible as to not being unequally yoked with unbelievers. Tonight I am going to see the new Pixar movie Cars with this guy. I told him that we can still be friends, but we cannot date. So my question is how can I make sure that he realizes I am serious when I say that I cannot date him and that I just want to be friends with him though I find him attractive. I need some advice. I am going to pay for my admission into the movie but I am not sure what else I should do. Also I need advice as to how to convince myself to stay true to the beliefs that I have had ever since I was a young girl and not to throw it all away for a guy. I am sure there will be devout Christian men that I can date. Thanks for your help in this matter.

Hopefully you won't have to tell him twice. If he really likes you then he will respect your decision. If he is true to his religion then hopefully he will completely understand why the two of you shouldnt date.If not just tell him again and if he still tries something then I would leave because he isnt respecting your decisions. If you feel uncomfortable going by yourself with him invite a friend to go with you and tell him to bring a friend. If you are a devout Christian, then you dont need advice on how to convince yourself to stay true to your beliefs. You know whats right deep down in your heart, just dont let lust get in the way. I hope all goes well tonight.

Well, to this guy, going to the movie with him would be considered a date in my mind. Don't give false hope to someone whom you don't see eye to eye with on God. God is more important than anything else in this world, and I mostly preaching to myself, it is hard to stay in the spirit. But I did like the other lady's answer, take a couple other friends so it doesn't come off as a "date." My advice if you don't want to throw away your beliefs for an atheist, see him less and less, and hang out with other people. I know it sounds mean, but God says, "Don't yoke yourselves with unbelievers" for a very good reason.

I understand where you're coming from in your beliefs (I was brought up Baptist/Non-Denominational)....but sometimes there is nothing wrong with yolking yourself with those that don't believe. Remember that in order to save humanity you have to spread the word of Jesus & how would you go about doing that if the only people that you hang out with are already saved???? I agree a group should go. Just the 2 of you--looks like a date-smells like a date-its a date.

dont judge him based on his religous beliefs. hes not going to make you stop going to church. your just different. he wont make you stray from the beaten path. have fun! if you like him, date him. dont let a difference stop you. my girlfriend didnt go to church and use to be wicken and now shes a christian. people change. don't worry about it. have fun!

be sure that if he comes closer to you to move away from him after all he's a guy and he may not get the message so you may need to tell him.

Then why even go out with him? All your doing is leading him on and messing with him. You should be ashamed of yourself. All you are doing is thinking of yourself. Selfish and pathetic.
