I need to know what people think if this word is offensive as I want to use it for the name of a totally non-sexual website, but the meaning of pimp is almost perfect. Any alternatives would also be greatly appreciated.

OK, I'll ellaborate: The website is basically a way for members of a number of different sports clubs who dont have a team for various reasons, find a club that has an incomplete team to make a composite team. So I use "pimp" meaning that I will be faclilitating the use of a person, but for sport. I'm not going to disclose anymore details as I wish to keep it under some wraps, but I hope that clarifies the useage a bit.

while i think it's a great idea, if you're going for the maximum possible coverage, the name might be inadvertently blocked by various site blockers and spam blockers.

Context is everything.

If you think of the show name: Pimp My Ride or Her apartment was really pimped out or a pimped up whatever (blinged up, stylin' etc)....yeah none of those are offensive, coz they mean something to do with style or making something sexier/cooler - Usage by the common ppl gives it this new meaning.

So when you name your website with the word Pimp in it, be sure to use it in a way that ppl see it in this somewhat humorous, hip way, rather than the other meaning (a mean ba_tard who beats and uses women and makes them do demeaning things and lets them keep less than a fraction of their earnings).

Pimp is an extremely offensive word. We in the trade prefer the term "Entertainment Facilitator".

Well it is to someone i know (english teacher) but for the most part the people i know don't mind it, but then, the people i know aren't whores who ran away from home and got trapped by a pimp into their degrading work.

It's down to the person who reads the word. Use it, at least your site will get a lot of visits

If anyone these days takes exception to the word "pimp" , I'd be inclined to laugh it off . . . Ho ho ho.

You could of course accuse them of being anti -semantic, and a "Pimpophobe".

"pimp my ride"? "pimp myspace"? "pimp me"??

Perhaps the word "Pimp" appeals to our inner "ho", thereby some will be offended. ( but who needs dull people?)

well pimp is actually the name of the employer of prostitutes so i guess it isn't really offencive, unless the person your calling a pimp isn't one then use it all you want.
