I'll be traveling to California from New Jersey in August to attend my grandpa's niece's wedding. The church wedding is at 2pm and the wedding reception is at 5pm. The problem is that I don't know what to wear because I'm slightly overweight. I'm 5 ft. 3 inches tall, weigh about 156 lbs. I'm in my 20s and I'm female, by the way. I'm guessing since this is a summer wedding that I would need to wear light color clothes. I need suggestions on what to wear and what would make me look slimmer and where I can buy these clothes. I'm also on a budget and I can't spend much money just for a 1 day event and I hardly go to formal events.

My bad. I forgot to include that I don't like to wear short dresses because I have a visible scar on my leg that can't be covered up with makeup. I wanna wear something nice and simple and makes me look slimmer. I need lots of suggestions! Thanks girls/gay men! LOL

Don't forget sunglasses.

I went to a summer wedding in California a couple of years ago. Try looking at some of the clothes on Chadwicks.com. They are less expensive and they will have sizes to fit you. I recommend a light blue sleeveless dress. However, if the reception is in the evening, it can be perfectly acceptible to wear a black sleeveless sheath or A line style dress with a sheer white, pink or lime green shawl over it for the actual ceremony. Good Luck!

Your Healthy Weight Range for your age is 113 to 130 pounds. I'm sorry to break this to you, but 156 is more than slightly overweight. It's 20% overweight and that's considered obese.
There's probably not too much that can be done to find "slimmer" looking clothes. But JC Penney has a good Plus Size department and you could try there.

Mid-calf leng summer dress in light colors. Shop JC-Penny for fashionalble yet reasonably priced dresses.
Wanna look slimmer?. Wear a Darker tone pencil skirt with a lighter toned top. I would avoid spagetti straps, they are not flatering on a full figured lady. Try a scoop neck top with short sleeves. And don't forget about the wearinng a girtle.
Seasonal accesories, a great purse and fancy shoes will make a simple outfil look great.
GOOD LUCK!

well avoid orange, you might look like a pumpkin. try light pinks or purples. don't wear yellow either. choose a dress that is tight fitting in the bust but loose just below it. the length should be just above your ankles. wear heels not flats. but a thicker heal. not a stileto. good luck and if you are shopping on a budget go to walmart of target or some place like that.

b/c it's in a church, make sure that your shoulders and knees are covered- at least for the ceremony.
i suggest a knee or calf length dress or skirt w/ top. then a little sweater/ cardigan over the top which can be removed for the reception. you arent' that overweight! I am sure you can find something! try Ross for bargains. And you may already have a skirt/ top/ or cardigan you can already use!
good luck

um, i agree with the first one. a cute summer dress with light colors would be very nice. it can show a figure, yet make you look slim. chose one that is to your liking and that you think fits you well! have a nice day! : )
