When I was younger I had my premolars extracted for braces. The braces pretty much closed the gaps to the extent you wouldn't know I was missing a tooth there, but in the top right the gap is slightly bigger than in the other places. Food always gets stuck in it and I'm constantly having to floss to get rid of it, which irritates the gum a lot.

If I went to the dentist, what could they do to try to close the gap to stop food getting stuck in it all the time?

If the gap is small enough to hold food everytime then its probably easy to close by bonding in some composite resin(white plastic) filling.

go for it.
Crowning is usually not done for this typ of problem unless there are several other problems or existing restorations on the tooth.

Ooh, I've got that too, all the other spaces are closed up except for one and food sticks there all the time. It's so annoying, especially when you're our somewhere - I know I don't carry floss around with me, maybe you do, but I'd doubt it!! Sounds like most people didn't actually read the question properly and think the gap is in the front, but from the few who actually did read it properly and understood it, it sounds like the best bet is to fill the gap with some white filling. I might ask my own dentist about that next time I'm there actually, and see if he can do that.

What the doctor can do is add in some composite tooth-colored material to make the spaces smaller but it would make the tooth look a little awkward.
All they would do is etch (clean ) the area
rinse
add composite
light cure it
and then smooth it out.
Although the shade maybe later in time wouldn't match your teeth and there is always a chance of it making your teeth look awkward.
Honestly, everyones smile is as unique as a fingerprint so it would be best to just have to deal with that gap then to have anything else done to it. We all have little gaps, Some of us don't have any gaps for the floss to fit in. Just be happy you have your real tooth and not a fake one =)

There are some options: You could always do braces again :( you could have some tooth colored filling material placed to fill in the gap. Have a crown placed or even a veneer might work. You just need to talk to your dentist about options. All of these of course vary in price and it just depends on where you live, but out of the options I told you the tooth colored filling material is probably the least expensive way to go, it doesn't last forever and will have to be replaced but it does work well.

i have this same problem. getting braces again is an option tho kinda extreme. other ideas might be placing a filling in the tooth to bring the contact closer to the adjacent tooth or even crowning it. however, if the tooth has never had a filling ect.. you will find your dentist will not want to do that because well, there's nothing wrong with the tooth. ask him what he thinks.

They could put a bridge in. Basically they take a couple of porcelain crowns and fuse them together to make the bridge. It should close the gap. Bear in mind that bridges need special care as well. Talk over your options with your dentist.

i used 2 have a small gap in between my front teeth and my sisters had braces so I started using the rubber bands that their dentist gave them and I was able to push my own teeth together. it took a month or so but I would sleep with the rubber bands and now I have no gap.

They would cap one of your teeth with a slightly bigger size tooth so it looks like it's part of your teeth and it would close the gap.

Sure, the gap can be lessened. Any dentist would be pleased to off this service - for a very big price.
