She just refuses to be house broken. We tried every thing and still as soon as she steps a foot onto the carpet she poos and pees. I dont want to leave her kenneled or locked in the kitchen all day and night but every single time....
She's 7 months now and still is having a hard time even making it on the paper. She is a Carin Terrier if her breed matters. And I am a stay at home mom so I am able to work on her all day but still....so stubborn...or just stupid?

Terriers are VERY stubborn and can be difficult to housebreak - did you read up on them before you got one?

First, be glad she's clean in the kitchen and the kennel - many aren't! You've made a mistake in paper training her - you've allowed and rewarded her for going in the house. If her little bladder is full and she relieves herself, that behavior is self-rewarding. She feels better after she goes.

Most dogs prefer to go on a soft surface like grass or carpet rather than in the street or on tile floors. Have the carpets professional cleaned with a urine neutralizer. Any scent that remains (including what has soaked into the padding and hardwood floor underneath) will attract her back to it. You could consider taking the carpets up completely.

You have to TEACH her not to go on the rugs. Don't just let her in there and hope for the best! Put her on a leash and tie it to your belt. That way you will (hopefully!) notice when she starts sniffing around like she has to go. When she's THINKING about it, correct her with a sharp leash jerk and yell "NO!" - pick her up and take her outside or put her on the papers. Praise her for being good when she goes in the right places.

I don't fully trust my terrier puppies loose in the house until they're about two years old.

Crate training is the only option...Dog's are den animals and do not like to soil the area's that they sleep in.

Leave your dog in a crate 4 hours at a time. Do not pay attention to her if she cries... Do not take her out before the 4 hours are up. After 4 hours, take her to an approved pee area and say the bathroom command (i.e. "Go Pee" or "Do your business" or something like that". Do not play with the dog during bathroom breaks; make it strictly business. After she pees/poops, praise her warmly, play with her for about 15 minutes or so, and then it's back in the crate.

I know it may seem cruel, but it's the only way. Like I said, they're den animals, and they will eventually start to love their little crate, and will often use it to hang out in when they are tired/bored.

Good luck!

You need to get rid of any urine/poop smell on the carpet because she smells it and thinks it's the place to go. You can try using vinaiger or buy something especially for that purpose at the pet store. Ordinary cleaners won't do it.

Then make sure you take her out after she wakes up, after she drinks, after she eats....and go with her. Tell her 'hurry up" and then when she does her business praise her. Using the words "hurry up" will signal to your dog what to do once she learns it. If you just let her out without going yourself she may just be anxious to get back inside to be with you. Also, take away the water bowl at least 4 hours before bedtime.

Good luck.

Well, have you tried rubbing her nose in her pee? Some people say you shouldn't do this but it's worked on my dogs. Next time she pees pick her up and rub her nose in it and then spank her. Then throw her outside for at least 15 min. When she poos just get her nose really close to it and spank her and throw her outside for 15 min. Just keep doing this every time she goes. Don't just give up, stay persistant and you might see progress.

she could have an over active blatter problem, take her in to see a vet, and if he says there is nothing wrong with her, then maybe there is something else wrong with her, to where she's not functioning right, cuz if you do everything possible then there is something wrong with her, get her in to see a vet, becuz dogs are fast learners they know after a certain amount of days right from wrong, and what is ok to do and what isnt. good luck to you sweetie, she could be lonely and doing it for attention, take her for walks at least once a day, let her know that your not leaving her

Not stupid. Just testing you. My Lhasa Apso is 7 and still tries to squat right in front of us. The vet said it's a personality problem. She is constantly testing her ground with us and what she can get away with. Hopefully your puppy will grow out of it.
