A young man asked Jesus what he had to do to have eternal life.
Mat 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Mat 19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Jesus was not tolerant he let the man go.
Luk 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Mat 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Jesus was not tolerant, but loving in that he always told the truth. If people were wrong he told them (do and sin no more) But he never compromised.
Show me in the Bible where Christians should be tolerant of sin??

Do you know what the opposite of tolerance is? Justice.
No, we are not to be tolerant of sin or lies. This is true. But when it comes to the negative connotation of this word, we also need to be as wise as serpents, yet gentle as doves. So I think "patient" yes. Tolerant? No!

No where in the bible does it say Christians are to be tolerant of sin. Despise the sin and love the sinner yes, but be tolerant of sin is being a luke warm christian and Jesus said He does not tolerate that.

Thank you, sir. You have just proven everything I've been saying about Christians all along. It's not about love, forgivenes, and tolerance when you get past the double talk. The whole tradition is about exalting self, being better than the rest of the planet, ruling and controlling.

Tolerance seems to me like implied approval--which the Bible never does.
Forgiving maybe confused with tolerance at times. When I 'turn the other cheek', it's not approving of an act or behavior. What it's saying is, 'if you hit me, then i'm to forgive you of that--then offer the other cheek'. (Note that we're to forgive others 70 times 7 times--meaning an infinite amount.)
Also, patience maybe misinterpreted for tolerance. If God weren't patient with his children, then many would be judged (and condemed) prior to accepting the Good News. I for one wouldn't have been saved (I accepted Christ at 30yrs old). He wasn't approving of my life-choices at the time, he was showing me grace and patience... And thank God for that!!

I do not have a reference at the moment, but I do not believe that the Bible says Christians should be tolerant of sin. The Bible says to be Christlike...was Christ tolerant of sin??? No way. For all of you who said, "love" is being tolerant...that is not true. You can love the person, but not the sin. When Christ said "Love thy neighbor" he didn't mean- "think your neighbors sin of adultery as okay" he meant love your neighbor and perhaps you can counsel your neighbor out of his sin and help him get back to doing right.

Since when are Christians tolerant? After Muslims, Christians are the least tolerant people. Crusades anyone.

It doesn't. It says things like "love your neighbor" and "love your enemies" but nothing about being tolerant. Tolerance is a humanist buzzword used to distract us from the truth. The truth is we should love the sinner (including ourselves) and hate the sin.

If it's cases within the church you're supposed to deal with sin, not tolerate it.

The Golden Rule ring a bell
If you want to be tolerated, I suggest you tolerate others. See you in 2042, but then you're alot older than me.

God is not tolerant with sin, but he is forgiving.
Tolerance is benign. Forgiveness is positive. But, there is also qualification for forgiveness. There must be recognition of wrong and there must be repentance. You don’t have just status quo with forgiveness; that nothing matters. Things do matter. God says, “I don’t tolerate. I forgive.”
God forgives, because God is love. Love is so much more than tolerance. Love warns, it disciplines and it corrects.
