The Catholic Church DOES NOT and HAS NEVER taught that the Blessed Virgin Mary is God or a god.

After reading the answers, it is amazing how many "Christians" reject Jesus as being God.

Jesus is God. A Christian does not reject that.

Of course I accept the Blessed Virgin as Mother of God.

Aside from what you have mentioned in Luke, in Psalm 103, we pray, "Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word! Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will!" (Ps. 103:20-21). And in Psalm 148 we pray, "Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his host!" (Ps. 148:1-2)

Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In Revelation, John sees that "the twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" (Rev. 5:8). Thus the saints in heaven offer to God the prayers of the saints on earth.

Angels do the same thing: "[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God" (Rev. 8:3-4).

Jesus himself warned us not to mess with small children because their guardian angels have guaranteed intercessory access to the Father: "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven." (Matt. 18:10).

Because he is the only God-man, Jesus is the only Mediator between man and God (1 Tim. 2:5), but this in no way means we cannot or should not ask our fellow Christians to pray with us and for us (1 Tim. 2:1-4), including those Christians in heaven, who have already had their sanctification completed, for "[t]he prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects" (Jas. 5:16).

Jesus obeyed the fourth commandment to honor Father and Mother, for He went down to Nazareth and was even subject to them. If He honored her, we can and should imitate Him. God Himself has honored her so greatly. For anyone to say: I reject her, will not honor her, would be an affront to His judgment.

Similarly, we should honor and imitate those men and women who were outstanding in serving God during their earthly lives, just as God now honors them in heaven.

Do Catholics worship Mary and the Saints? Protestants often claim that. But let us examine the command of Our Lord: "Judge Not". We must distinguish two things:

a) the objective rating of an action, e.g., murder is gravely sinful. We can say this independently of the interior dispositions of anyone who does it. If I see someone put a gun to another's head and pull the trigger, it is not "judging" to say I saw murder.

b) The interior dispositions of the sinner--here we must not judge, for at least in general, we cannot know much if anything of the interior. It is to this that the Gospel command applies.

Therefore, as to Marian devotion:

a) the forms it takes, such asking her to intercede with her Son, lighting candles, etc.--these are not in themselves worship. What of the eternal flame at the grave of President Kennedy?

b) The interior attitudes of Catholics: to insist they mean it to be worship, i.e, the kind of honor due to God alone--this is simply rash judgment, and is forbidden by "Judge not." So those who make the charge are violating the Gospel precept. The same holds true, of course for devotion to all the saints.

No I don't.
God has no beginning and no end. He was not born of a woman nor was He was created. He is the beginning and the end. He is Alpha and Omega. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. How then can Mary be the Mother of God? Mary is blessed because she was chosen to be the vessel chosen by God, through which Jesus, who is the Son of God would be born. I respect her for having been chosen from among women, but I do not pray to her nor do I worship her.

1 Timothy 2:5 New International Version (NIV)
For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

Nowhere in the Bible does it state that Mary is the mother of God. It seems that there is too much emphasis placed on her as the Bible has very little to say about her at all. Yes she was called blessed amongst we man as she was the chosen by the Lord to bring Christ into the world in human form. It goes without saying that Jesus always existed prior to his arrival on earth as a human therefore Mary could not possibly be the mother of God as that would mean that she existed before Christ did. The Lord placed all the emphasis on Jesus as he is the focal point of the Bible and not Mary.

So Jesus was 100% human and 100% god. What are you raving about? You are 200% deluded.

Mary was a pregnant young woman "engaged" to Joseph. Most likely she was pregnant by a Roman soldier! She was deified to please the Egyptian converts who were used to the whole virgin birth, madonna and child thing from their religion. Check out the myth of Isis and Osiris:
Isis is the Virgin-Mother, sister and wife of Osiris and mother of Horus. She is "the woman clothed with the sun" of the land of Chem. In the litany apostrophizing her, she is the "Immaculate Lady," "Queen of Heaven," "Illustrious Isis, most powerful, merciful and just," titles transferred entire or with slight change to the Virgin-Mary. (See Isis Unveiled, II, 209, for comparison of litanies). And not only was the adoration of Isis restored under a new name, but even her image standing on the crescent moon was adopted by the Christians, while her well-known effigy with Horus in arms has descended to our time in the many pictures of the Madonna and child. The "Black Virgins," so highly reverenced in certain French cathedrals were found, upon critical examination, to be basalt figures of Isis!

You're praying to an ancient Egyptian godess! Check out the links.

sure she was blessed. she was chosen to bare the Son of God. to be a vessel in which to bring Jesus into the world. how blessed it that?! :-)

yes, she was a virgin at the time. the virgins name, was Mary. she didnt die a virgin. Jesus had half brothers and sisters. the book of James in the new Testament, was written by Jesus's half brother James. so she isnt the "virgin Mary" anymore, sorry.

she was definately, Jesus' earthly mother. but she is not, a God and should not be placed on a pedestal as a mediator, that is Jesus' job.

Mary was a lovely, blessed and good woman, but that is all. she is not to be worshipped, or used. she would be sickened at the traditions of man. God rest her beautiful soul, i feel sorry for her. read this link if you havent yet, it helps to shed a little light. and its scriptural.

According to the bible, Mary is the mother of Jesus. So, yes, I do believe that. However, I agree with the above comment, my focus in my spiritual life is on Jesus Christ and not so much Mary, because she was chosen by a higher power to be the mother of Jesus, she is merely a human like the rest of us.

First of all, we have to straighten something out: She is the mother of Jesus Christ, the SON OF GOD, not GOD!

Luke 1:35 In answer the angel said to her: “Holy spirit will come upon you, and power of the Most High will overshadow you. For that reason also what is born will be called holy, God’s Son.

There is a HUGE difference between BEING God, and being the SON OF GOD.

Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost in the Virgin Mary's womb, however, the Catholic belief that she was "holy" or is in fact another God, is wrong in my views. It is a fact, however that Jesus was and is 100% man and 100% God. She was blessed, but not holy or a God.

I don't think Mary was God's Mother, no. I believe she was Jesus' mother. But she was also just another human. All humans sin, and she was no exception. She is no better than you or me. She was chosen to preform a task by God, just like we all have a task. She gave birth to Jesus, and he is the Son of God.

I believe Mary is the mother of Jesus. I have no reason not to. I do not refer to her as "Blessed Mother" or anything, nor do I pray to her or ask her to pray for me.

I think Jesus gets offended when anyone insults anyone.

yes, because without her Jesus Christ could not have been human he would only be a god. That's what makes Jesus so special. Yes I do get offended when someone insults my mother.
