It is a great and fun way to lose weight! There are several great bellydance videos/dvds out; you can pick them up pretty cheaply at Amazon.com. Plus, most communities in Florida offer belly-dance classes. Check out one of the freebie papers at Denny's, the local "What's Happening" section of the newspaper, or online at your city's website.
Oh, and you DON'T only lose weight in the middle! You will definitely work and tone your abs, but bellydance is an aerobic activity. You move and you work your legs and arms doing all of the movements.

most ppl say belly dancing is this whole thing with moving ur tummy like a wave, but i took a 1 month course, and its more about ur upper body, ur arms, and hips. its not like a chareography. there r certain steps already known. when u put on d music, u just dance to the tone of it, because there r many instruments in the melody, so the danse step changes gradually. so its for u to dance d way u think it suits the music. i don't know any websites on how to danse the belly dancing, but i was just giving u an idea of what belly dancing was like...its not easy and the coordination is very difficult. unless u'v done other danse classes, the belly dancing will be very hard for u, but i'm sure you'll lose weight anyways. and from experience, after belly dancing, its easier to danse to the music in a club or bar, without looking "out-of-the-place" :)
PS: the music isnt beyonce. its very traditional and very diffrenet yet so good! its really great...

Pole dancing. I recognise you'll be able to now order your self a pole so you'll be able to do it at residence too. I wanna be trained so I'm watching into it. ;) Besides I suppose it is extra sensual then stomach dancing.

you will only loose weight in your middle, get aerobics or weight training.... they will work your whole body.
