Are people getting more stupid these days?

It seems that more and more people can't form proper sentences or spell anything right anymore. Even on this site there are a lot of poorly written questions and responses.
Is the education system letting these people slip through the cracks or is stupidity going to be the next trend to take off?

I've noticed it too.

But you've got to remember that many of these people on this site haven't even graduated from high school, are not native English speakers, and/or are purely doing this for fun. They're not too concerned about their grammar.

I have noticed that also. Some of the questions are so poorly written that you simply can’t answer them because of the fact that they make no sense! I don’t know about stupidity being the next trend but some people in here are definitely very unintelligent and it shows by there questions and answers! One thing I don’t understand is how anything can come out spelled wrong when there is such a thing called SPELL CHECK!

You obviously know it has nothing to do with intelligence. You also agree that many people who use this site are not in what you might say the top of their classes. It would be a mistake to judge the whole population based on this site, I think.
That is something I CAN brag about. And the reasons I use this site, have more to do with learning the language and entertainment than anything else.

Also there are many people from all over the world using this site. Especially Latin America, India (especially!!), China, Japan and the Phillipines.

Funniest question so far was from a man obviously from India: Why stare gay men at me, all time, what to do?

Let's see, there are many factors.

Our society supports stupidity. I mean look at our media, our TV, everything, no one is really required to think for themselves anymore. The net sorta dumbed everyone down a bit since some people don't use spell check before typing their stupid quesiton or answer down. Some think its' coooooooool to be stupid.

I mean, the smart people get ostresized by all the dumb *** people they have to encounter everyday.

Education is also being dumbed down because too many parents out there don't teach their stupid fetuses anything, and depend too much on our school system to be babysitters to these little bastards.

It's a decline in civilization my friend. Also, Safety labels.

Safety Labels prevent the deaths of stupid people everyday. It's not about Natural Selection anymore.......

A pity, but I just live with it.

I'm going to lean toward the latter part of the question. I feel the younger generation is actually viewing stupidity as a trend. It's unfortunate, the children are the shapers of the future.

most people who write on the site are not interested in whether or not their sentences are correct. its just a site to ask questions why does it matter if they do not use proper grammar? it is kind of stupid nit- picking on something that is not even a major issue.people just want to ask questions and get some answers.

No, they've always been stupid. My Dad used to tell me this and I just thought he had a bad attitude. Turns out he was right. This is why our newspapers are now written on an average of a ninth grade reading level.
