Suggestions for decorating a Gasthof style basement bar?

My husband would like to make our basement look like a "gasthof" or german restaurant/bar. Any decorating tips for giving it a look of authenticity? Please give me suggestion for colors, style, etc. I would like specific suggestions of how to achieve this look.

I don't want it too look like a pub or bar. We want the colors, decor, flavor of the german gasthof. This isn't going to be a party bar. It's a family den. Gasthofs are more family oriented places where people gather with friends and family. It's not a drink fest like the Oktoberfest celebration. So we are looking for decor suggestions.

Being German and having been in interior design, here are some suggestions. Germans love their wood, in rich finishes and heavily carved. Usually, there are deer antlers or a hunting theme in gasthofs. Large cuckoo clocks, with animated characters grace the walls along with pictures of historical sites, villages or medieval characters. Germans also love fabrics, lace curtains, table cloths and linens or tapestries. If you think of the American Lodge look and go a little darker, you'll have the idea.

Hit the yard sales for steins-- sometimes you get lucky-- if you live near a military base, see if a friend will check out their thrift stores for stuff-- Look for the paper beer glass coasters-- have the names of the beer makers on them--There are touristy wine glasses in a rack-- shot glasses--A big mirror is good--A map of Germany pre and post wall would be interesting to me--
google Bavaria and see what you can get-- which might include posters for vacation places--
I just got back from 2 weeks and brought several handfulls of coasters-- all free! Have fun!
