I have ointment that I put in it when he starts that but does anyone have any home solutions that might be good? When we bathe him we put cotton in his ears. His ears hang down so there is no real good ventilation if he does get water in them. Any home solutions would be great????????

You don't have to take him to the vet to get ointment. Call the vet's office and tell the receptionist that you need more ointment, and then go pick it up. You don't need an "ointment appointment"

I would not try any home solutions. If it's a yeast or bacterial infection then nothing but meds from your vet will help it. You could actually make it worse. I would call up your vet office and ask if you can come in as a walk-in. You may have to wait a while but his ears are probably really bugging him and could eventually be painful if they're not already. If your vet office still says no I would take him to a different vet. Any good veterinary clinic will let you come in for something like this, especially if you're willing to wait. We always tell people they can come in but we do warn them when they're walk-ins they will probably have to wait a bit. So bring a good book with you. If he gets ear infections frequently then clean his ears out every day after the infection is gone. Your vet should have some ear cleaner that is inexpensive for a big bottle. Try asking for VET Ear Cleansing Solution. You should be able to keep the ears free from infection by cleaning them once a day.

i suggest that you bring your pet to the vet. an ear infection must never be taken for granted, do not wait until your pet gets a nasty smelling ear. Ask your vet for a cleaning solution... the stuff that you pour into your dogs ear and it should wash away the dirt. an antibiotic will also speed up the healing processes if there is indeed an infection. Home remedy may help, but it usually takes time...

I have a floppy eared dog that was prone to ear infections, especially since she loves water and swimming. My vet recommended this to me and it really works!!! after a day of playing in water or a bath we use a few drops of Listerine mouthwash, the alcohol in it will help dry the ear and also kills any bacteria that may grow and cause infections. Just a few drops in each ear does the tricks, we have not been bothered by any ear infections in three years now!! good luck!!

An at-home remedy is mineral oil. Use a cotton swab and place the mineral oil into the dog's ear. If he has mites, it will smother the mites. Do not keep the cotton ball in the dog's ear. Use this for about a week, and if it is not cleared up, you should take the dog to the vet.

Any vet who can't see an animal in pain, on the day he is in pain, needs to be replaced! They should at least allow you to just come in and get the medicine if this dog has a history of ear infections.
If these infections are cronic, the other cause could be vaccinations. Read the Wisconsin University web site below.

You should get ADL flushing and drying solution it helps to clean and dry out the ear canal after your dog goes swimming or has a bath. dogs ear canals are a lot different than ours they are more of an L shape and are the perfect environment for bacteria to grow in. If your dogs keeps shaking its head eventually an ear hematoma(blood that builds up under the skin) will develop and that will cost a lot of money to have drained.

He could have mites, or an ear infection, or could have something in his ear. Also, is he a breed thea has a lot of hair in his ears, like a poodle, if so the hair needs to be pulled out. I would suggest taking him to the vet to pinpoint the problem, it sounds as if he is in pain. A dog will shake his head and hold his head to one side when they have a problem with their ears.

Eric is right. Maybe even take him to one of those animal emergency places. It could also be that he just has ear wax in there , and it's annoying him. There are drops you can get at Pet Smart to help dissolve it.

My dog's name is Sammy, too. Good Luck.

If oitment doesnt make him better, check his food or treats whatever you give him. Maybe he has allergies or reaction. Or the oitment doesnt suit him!
Keep on treating him for few days...(dont wait and see) until he stops and the ear clean again.
