I think the gift card idea is great...that way once things settle down you can decide what you need (and what you have 14 of...for us it was clocks!) The advice I give people just starting out is ask your family for old towels. The first time you have a spill to mop up you don't want to have to use the great new fluffy towels you just got as a wedding present!

The gift card idea the others had was a good one, but a lot of people don't go that route because its so impersonal. What i do recall needing was bed sheets (you can never have to many) that would be my number 1 on the list. If your newlywed and are like most couples you have already spent "living" with your spouse and accumulated things together. Number 2 on my list would have been silver (forks and spoons) now that your married you'll find out you have more and more visitors over for family suppers. Which brings me to my number 3 dishes, you'll want a nice set of plates for those special occasions you do have friends/family over. After all is done you will still find that ONE thing you forgot to add and it will be something you'll need almost daily lol like a can opener.:-p Best of luck in your new adventure of life (marriage) and i hope you two have the best time ever together.

I wish that I would have taken more time to inspect the items. Because I got quite a few things that I didn't want and they were on my registry, but I didn't understand what they were.

a really nice set of knives. i cook a lot and high quality knives are very important.
a hi thread count sheet set. i already had sheets, but know i wish i'd put that on the list.
fun things. mostly the things you get are things you need. it's nice to have things on the list that are just for fun. my fiance put a portable DVD player on the list from Target. He loves that thing. :D

How about a husband that doesn't cheat!
If that would have been on my registry I could have saved a few grand on my wedding!

microwave-I ended up getting a hand-me down one that rarely worked
dremel-it's a small hand-held motorized tool that is really handy for small do-it-yourself jobs around the house.
bed pillows-start your new life with new pillows...

There was no such thing when I got married, or at least not at places like Target and WalMart.
