There are some products for DARK HAIR ONLY that claim you don't need to bleach your hair before coloring it. But will HOT PINK really come out OVER the Dark hair? I'm purchased "L'Oreal HiColor HiLights for Dark Hair Only in MAGENTA" w/ Developer #30, as advised by the woman in the beauty shoppe. Will it really work?

Well, it depends on what color your hair is right now. If it's a dark color, your gonna have to use bleach. If it's in the middle of light and dark, then the color might come out with a redish possibly orangish tint to it. But again that depends if you already have color on it. Remember color will not remove color. I would try asking a professional in your area only because I tried to put electric blue highlights in my hair about 5 years ago and they came out green. Now, I'm a hairstylist and I understand the color wheel better. If you go to a professional, they can determine what level your hair is and what level you want your hair to be. They might even say that it could be done without bleach. Good Luck

Imagine you had a transparent piece of hot pink plastic...

If you put it over light colored hair, the hair would appar to be a bright hot pink.

If you put it over dark hair, sure the hair would have a hot pink tint, but it wouldn't be a bright as if the hair were light first. So, bleaching/lightening is necessary if you really wnat HOT PINK.

But bleaching your hair is not great for your hair. If you have short hair and get it cut regulary, that's not a huge deal. If you have longer hair and want to keep in long, then you probably don't want to do this.

Hope this helps.

There are temporary hair spray colors you can put on dark hair that will make it neon pink. I think the brand is Jerome Russell. Available at drug stores and I think Sallys Beauty Supply

That product does have bleach in it. My sis (black hair) used it and the color came out very dull. The best way to change your hair to an unnatural color is to bleach all the color out, then apply "punky color" they have the supplies at Sally's. Punky color washes out every week but there is enough in the tub for several applications.
