I am writing a short story at the same time as illustrating a graphic novel for a friend, and thanks to those who have already answered my bizarre and slightly grim questions!

Now I need to know, if someone were strangled from behind with a cord looped around their throat and squeezed tightly, is it likely they would die quietly?

In the scene a man is strangled thus by another man whilst watching a movie in a small private cinema, alone save for the projectionist up above in his booth (out of line of sight).

Considering the man is sat down in a tight space would he be likely to get free, this is assuming both men are of avergage strength. Also hoe much noise would he be able to make (I imagine he'd be able to kick his feet around frantically?) and hopw long, roughly, would death or at least unconsciousness take?

Thankyou!

This would be something to confirm with a coroner of some sort or a mortuary.

Weird question but good luck

When you go without air medically it takes about 2-3 minutes to loose conciseness, 4 minutes to start brain damage 5-6 for death, and as far as your novel goes kicking seats etc. would be all I can imagine the victim could do to make noise....If you put pressure on someones throat is eliminates their ability to make noise with their voice box

If the other man is strong enough to keep a tight hold on the one he is strangling..then the poor victim would lose consciousness quickly. The victim makes "grunting strangling " sounds and kicks violently , his eyes bulge out, and his tongue hangs out as well ..if no one comes to his aid he will die a violent horrible death.

I think it would take about 4 minutes for him to lose consciousness and that he would be able to make quite a racket with kicking and trying to free himself. A chloroform rag may be a better quieter way to surrender the victim, I hope that helped some. Best wishes Let us know how it turns out!!

No he'd make too much noise, much better sticking a hat pin, or similar sharp object, under the back of his skull. Deal with the noise by using a pad over the mouth.

i think he would die quietly..and i did imagine him kickin' his feet franticly even before you said that, i guess we have the same minds. If the victim makes enough noise i think people would assume he was just scared because of the movie or whatever and wouldn't care. They would be sittin' back enjoying theirselves as their customer was slowely dyin' by being strangled. sad stuff

kicking feet would make noise so is dependant as to what is on the floor, but the voicebox would be sqaushed so no screaming, the body would tense up Id assume and the arms would be trying to remove the cord rather than flapping around to make noise..

Gasping/Wheezing would be the only noice made....

Try Asking at the Writers Forensic Medical Lab http://www.dplylemd.com/Questions/archive/hanging.htm

The author of that page has written several books, too. (I'm big on book since I'm a library assistant.)
You might be able to find these in a public or academic library.

Here is another book that came up in my search.

Probably a bit of gasping noise too. But I can't spell it LOL. This sounds scary - hope it turns out well for you. I like scary stuff.
