I don't know.
You do get all types on both sides of the fence -- people who believe something because someone told them it was true, versus those who have actually done some comparison research.
(The latter might not be sure of their answer yet, since there's always more to learn, but they're interested in integrating what they can.)
I'm saying this gently, but how much evolution theory can you actively bring up in a conversation? How much of the details (evidence) have you actually learned well enough to debate with against someone else who is knowledgeable?
Similarly, how much of the details of the Bible do you know? Can you articulate a Bible believer's argument as if it were your own?
(Until you can argue convincingly for the other side, you really haven't done any comparison... you've just bought into one side or the other.)
Regardless of which is right, or how much they both can overlap, I'd suggest you keep asking people why they believe what they believe. Some of them do think. Some also use different criteria than you do.
For example, here's someone's logic for why they might accept Christianity and deny evolution:
1. Evolution has some physical data in its favor. While historical evidence exists for Christianity, the fossil record might be outside its jurisdiction.
2. Evolution does not explain satisfactorily the daily experience of being human.
3. Real Christianity (not the ritualized variation) seems to reflect the best ways in which people truly grow, change, and interact
4. Evolution does not fit with this experience; Christianity does; therefore I will believe in Christianity and disregard evolutionary data.
You've prioritized physical data; this hypothetical Christian priorities experiential and relationship data.
Talk to more Christians with an interest in why they think the way they do, and hopefully some of them will be able to articulate their reasoning for you.

Scientific evidence is not concrete most of it will probably be disproved in the future as all the past theories have been. I am studying sciences at the moment and they update or change theories all the time. And the bible, if that comes under the term 'story book' has it's events backed up by documents from different sources. There is other kinds of evidence such as what you feel physically and spiritually which is still valid even though it is not wriiten down by someone with a doctorate.

= I'm spreading hatred? what have I said that was hateful?
I just want your proof that I'm lieing! none of you Athiests can answer any of my questions- not one time! all you do is state it as fact, even when it has been proven wrong! tell me what has been proven wrong in the Bible? tell me and I'll explain why you are wrong. I dare you, challange a 19 year old drop-out.
ask me a question-you don't have to agree, but I will answer it based on science(if it's a physical question)
it's more than any of you have done.=
as If not believing in God has done any good in the world
it abolished decency, spreads disese, murders.
it has turned this society into a selfish, materialistic, society!
Is this your Idea of progression?
many churches are not Biblical therefore not true christians.
stop using them as examples.
Hitler loved darwinism, but only used a christian facade to gain votes.
I think this is hilarious, why so uppity? If we(theists) are right we go to heaven, If you(athiests) are right, we go no where,
why waste your energy, I'm doing this to fight the good fight.
I mean what is YOUR purpose?
people that believe in God, are telling people that there is a God because we don't want people to live without Him and go to hell!
you on the other hand speak against us to serve what purpose?
It sure isn't helping anyone, atheism is a Joke it's for people who make idols of themselves, and the human race, get off your pedestal, your only purpose is to sound smart.
Do you know everything?
half of everything?
No, but saying you know "half" couldn't you even fathom that God is in the other half?
most of your evidence has been proven wrong.
Explain the geometric column. does dating fossils from rocks, and then dating rocks from fossils make any sence? no, it's called circular reasoning. and all from a chart some guy in the 1800's theorized but nowhere in the world is ther such an example.
sounds like you stick to your religion no matter what,
and it is a religion, there is no evidence of macro-evolution
and even the big bang(when one day NOTHING exploded and made everything!) therory goes against natural PROVED therories, like the law of angular momentum no one has explained why so many planets/ moons go against this, or the braiding on saturns rings?
carbon dating makes these wrong assuptions:
1. Atomospheric C14 is an equalibrium
2. Decay remains constant
3. initial amounts of C14 can be known
4. The sample being tested has not been contaminated over time
5. the geometric columb can be used to calibrate C14 dates
If you have any questions about creationism, I will try to answer them in a scientific matter.
I can explain why the earth is a young earth, layers, dinosaurs,
the flood, all in a scientific way. If you don't believe me, ask.

Lol at dust, you just saved me a lengthy explanation to him too!
Thanks!
It is not that they are stupid (some might be, but so are some atheists), but perhaps have not been exposed to the correct environment, skills and knowledge to accept evolution & other scientific theories like gravity, relativity, heliocentricity, & electromagnetism.
People are brought up differntly all over the world and also do have different capacities to learn, and understand information (sorry but its true). Having said that there are many types of intelligences not just academic ones, and those lacking in reasoning, & math skills are often better at other things like social, physical, music, etc.
It doesn't really matter how intelligent people are as to whether they accept some form of religion. It is more complex than that, entangled in upbringing, acquantences, education, religious exposure, experience, etc. Each persons is different.
People can follow the link below for why evolution works, and creationism doesn't:

All science was a story before it was ever proven. Life as we know it cannot be explained in a simple manner. Theism is a plausible explanation to many of life's mysteries, even though it has not been proven. Until I see evidence of something more plausible, I'll continue to believe that the universe and all that it contains is not and was not intelligent or capable of creating itself out of nothing.
Just a quick example:
Two piles of clay. One pile has an artist with it. The other does not. Which one will be formed into a piece of pottery? I think we all know the answer to that.
The theist believes that it takes an artist to form the clay into pottery. The atheist believes that the clay will form into pottery by itself.
One of these is stupid.

skoshi_neko - thats all a bit naughty now isnt it. you clearly have no real knowledge of any of this and have copied it out of fundamentalist website, ..... now dont fib ... its against your religion.
Basic fact of life - if one hundredth of scientific fact is correct - its 100% more fact than you have to work with. And if you can prove God exists - then you dont need faith - ergo no salavtion. Explain that one.
God, if u are up there, spread a few more braincells round your flock..... sigh.
I was going to start on your pseudo evidence (just to feel smug - dipsticks like you will believe whatever b*ll*cks you want) but when I realised by 'geometric column' you probably meant geologic column - i lost the enthusiasm.

Humankind invented Gods and religions. Some people in this world need to hold on to something in order to lead their lives in what they feel is a correct manner...others don't need it.
I think the problems we should worry about are:
- Some smart asses making millions from people's beliefs. If they are so committed to their religion why do they need those inmense bank accounts and businesses? And this goes for most religions, Catholic, Mormons, Protestants, etc.
- The fact that most religions are sexists, and influence sexist behaviours.
- The fact that instead of helping believers think for themselves and feel free, they enclose them into a set of rules that castrate their logical thinking, estrange them from what they call "wordly matters" and isolate them into a weird world where only "their" truth exists. This is why so many of them are so closed to other opinions and intolerant.
Then it's not about stupid, it's about some smart asses making a living out of a bunch of people that need emotional reassurance and taking advantage of that.

Being a stupid theist, I don't think that they have to be mutually exclusive. I don't think that science disproves God, but rather unravels how God makes things. Time is realevant to Man, but I don't think that God operates on 24 hour days, but rather the Bible puts creation into context that we humans can understand. I believe all of the events in the Bible because I believe in the word of God, and I don't believe that we evolved from Apes, but I do love to see how science explains how our world works and makes me love and respect God's awesome creative power even more.

I think a more interesting question would be "Why do you think that people who don't believe the same things you do are stupid?" Another question would be "Why do you feel the need to shove it under their nose and rub their face in it?" You should worry about your life and let other people worry about theirs.

Sociology states that science is but a shift in paradigms, for example it is OK to eat red meat, the next it isn't.
I'm struggling with my faith but i have to agree that science needs a better basis, also most people follow science because it is a core subject in school, where as religion isn't for the best part.
