I've had HPV before (Human Papilloma Virus) and yes, it is sexually transmitted. Mine caused me to have an abnormal pap results. I had pre-cancerous cells on my cervix, and my doctor had to do a LEEP conization. This was years ago, and I'm fine now... Just make sure you keep following up with your OB to make sure everything is OK. HPV can also cause genital warts, I believe.

A friend of my had cervical cancer from HPV. Her husband cheated on her and that is how she got it. Her doctor first asked her if she ran around (she is a true Christian) she was horrified that she was asked such a question. Then he asked if there was a possibility that her husband cheated and she said yes. When she went home and told her husband what the doctor said, he told her he wanted a divorce. (He had been in a relationship with another woman and was waiting for the "right" time to end things)
My friend learned ALOT about HPV and felt compelled to tell others about it. This is what she told me:
HPV can be in your system dorment for up to 5 years. Most men who pass on HPV, are able to pass it on because:
1) they have recently had a number of partners and came home to have sex again while being unclean
2) they have had sex with an unclean partner and came home and have sex while also being unclean.
I found a site that is ALL about HPV, I hope this helps you:

I'm not 100% but I believe HPV can lie dormant in the body. But as well, you had to have picked up the virus from somewhere. If you know for a fact your ex was cheating on you, I'd call him and ask him if he has it.

There's no telling when you got it, or if he even has it. Sorry. You should still hit him with a bat for it, though.
