is trying to explain your beliefs to a person of different beliefs the same as explaining a blind kid what a pink elephant looks like ?

i mean, don't you have the feeling that a person of different beliefs than yours will never fully understand your beliefs?

I think there is great value in trying to have respectful and intelligent dialouge between different parties in order to come together closer to the truth.

It's only when one or both parties become so entrenched in their own belief and won't listen and open their mind to another point of view that it all becomes pointless to continue.

Personally I would really be interested to hear how a blind child perceives that pink elephant. Maybe as a sighted person I would learn a thing or two about what a pink elephant really is.

I think I could do everything but the pink bit, with some props. I think trying to explain your beliefs to someone who believes differently is like shouting to a person who speaks a different language, but has no hearing issues.

How does it feel to make love with a man?

Is it like eating ice-cream, or like flying a kite , or like winning a game?

No ...it is far beyond that

it is easy to explain your beliefs but with no common reference understanding is very hard-and if one or the other is closed to new thoughts it might well be impossible-lots of love keep the peace old hippie

You can explain your beliefs to anyone if you have reasons for your beliefs. It's the sheeple who don't have reasons that can't explain.

Looks like you're trying to explain something that which you don't really believe.
You cannot expect others to believe in you if you don't believe in yourself.

I agree with you, but I wouldn't put it quite that way. I'm not really sure how I would put it in a way that others will understand. Lao Tzu did it, but I'm no Lao Tzu.
