Weight loss is a very misunderstood process. Actually, in order to move fat from storage to fuel as energy, you need carbohydrates (minimum 130 grams). To completely break down stored fat, your body needs carbohydrates. Without carbohydrates, your body incompletely breaks down fat and produces ketones. Large amounts of ketones are produced by stored fat when burned without carbohydrates. Ketones are irritating to your kidneys and your body will attempt to get rid of them in your urine. This urinary loss of ketones represents only about 100 calories per day, which is not going to cause a significant weight loss

When you reduce your carb intake your body has to expend the extra energy to burn fat. If you feed it lots of sugar & other carbs it can run on them and store fat.

The first place your body finds available fat is in the bloodstream which explains why your cholesterol drops on a low carb diet. Then your body goes to your stored fat reserves and your fat comes off.

I lost 43 pounds and have kept it off for five years now. My doctor can't believe how good my triglicerides and cholesterol have become.

Yes, this statement is true. No carbs in your diet will also cause your body to start "feeding" on it's muscle tissue. Eating carbs that are processed, like white flour products and pasta; or white potatoes, isn't good cause it turns to sugar (glycose) alot sooner in your system. However, "good" carbs would be whole grain breads, veggies and fruits. Your body has to work at processing these and therefore will not be turning it immediately into sugar, which in turn turns to fat storage. You can lose weight eating only proteins, but you risk being in ketosis and as soon as you start back to eating carbs, you'll put the weight back on. Moderation in all things is the best diet.

carbs are not bad. the thing about weight loss is that you just have to lessen the amount of carbs/fats/calories you take in or eat 5-6 times a day using small servings of food. the paragraph sumply implies the importance of carbs on the process of weight loss, how can you possibly use energy for something if you don't have stored up energy? so don't worry, carbs aren't bad. just lessen them, you need it for better functioning of the body.=)

Yes it is true. The RIGHT carbs are not bad i.e. veggies, beans, whole grains, fruits. Carbohydrates are your bodys main source of fuel, muscles need carbs to function properly. Therefore, if there are no carbs how can your muscles burn the fat. Carbs are not bad but in excess they are as with any other food.

Yes it is true and no carbs are NOT bad. Your brain needs carbs to function. There is a difference between good carbs and bad carbs, and you need to eat them in moderation. The carbs your body gets from fruits, vegetables, and whole grain breads and pastas are GOOD carbs. Bad carbs are from refined sugar and white pasta bread and rice products. You can still have those on occasion but remember to make at least half your carbs whole grain and watch your portion control!!
