My daughter has decided to memorize the words to every song on the High School Musical soundtrack. She sounds like a howling dog. I just can't take it any more.

You should buy her a recorder. You know, those flute-like woodwind instruments. My parents LOVED it when I played. They even told me I was so good that I should play in the barn for our animals.

Honestly if she is 8 then you should use this special time to encourage her interests. If you don't then you'll end up with a bored teenager who will seek other things for enjoyment such as acohol, drugs, shoplifting, and vandalism. Encourage her. Perhaps say that singing is something that has a special time or place and give examples. Maybe find a place in the house like the basement where the sound is muffled slightly and say that she can use it to practice her singing. Seriously though, encourage her now in what she cares about 8-11 goes really fast and by 11 their peers have had experiences you won't even want to think about.

I have a 7 year old daughter. Will be 8 in August. She sings ALL the time and I highly encourage it. She even makes up her own songs. Both sides of my family growing up sung. My Uncle was IN the music business for over 20 years.

Singing lets her be a star....it lets her create....and creativity is something that every child needs.

Let her sing. There will come a day when she is older and grown and you will MISS not hearing her young 8 year old voice.

Why on earth would you want to stop her? And I surely hope you don't tell her she sounds like a howling dog! Learn the songs and sing along with her. I love nothing more than a concert in the front yard with my daughters entertaining me and whoever is walking or driving by the house. Encourage her creative side, don't try to hinder it!

Don't stifle her. Twenty years from now, you will look back and regret that you did.

Eight year olds do a lot of annoying things. That's part of growing up. Enjoy that your daughter has something that interests her.

If her singing is really bad, see if she would like to take lessons. Music lessons are always a good thing, and she might get less annoying.

Haha. Buy her a dog and see if it drowns her out.

Lol that would give you a migrane.

I did the same thing to my mom. Except she though putting me in the chior would help. The teacher pulled her over at the end of a week of classes ans was like "Your daughter is tone deff." Lol.

Yea unfortunetly my mom was like whatever, shes a kid and let me sing on and on. Little did I know it was terrible. Maybe try and see if signing classes help and if not then hey... try to point her in a new direction - set design, acting, dancing... there are a lot of options in Musicals/ drama/ entertainment.

Good luck. hey there are always ear plugs.

Ohhhh, that sucks for you. My daughter is 6 and knows every song by heart and sings them all the time. If we go to the store she will walk around singing and dancing. People often stop and listen to her and watch her. I guess dance/music lessons paid off on my end. I would suggest maybe getting her some voice lessons or music lessons.

Get her intrested in other types of music if she wont stop with those couples of songs then let her be in choir or get a teacher to help her sing better that way she will learn diffrent songs and get what she wants at the same time

Give her singing lessons and put her in a children's choir/chorus. Sing with her and encourage her to try to copy the notes you sing.

Allow her to sing in the house only if she is using proper technique and is practicing. Proper technique uses control and not being too loud. She won't be able to hit the notes if she is just "howling" at the top of her lungs.

Let her sing!!!
My granddaughter is only 20 months old and she sings.
My niece starting singing when she was very young and now she is 18 years old and has been singing for many school and other functions. She has won many talent contests.

It's better than a whining and crying kid.

the best thing i can say is let her sing! She could be a star in the music. Just find a cheap or a good music/ singing class for her. Music also can help her get rid of stress at a more mature age. Let her sing Please :)
