The trash is collected and compressed. they are sent to the recylcing chambers were all the stuff that can be recycled are separated from the non-recyclable and biodegradable stuff. these are eventually burned and the burned garbage is dumped at the Semakau island landfill which is 20 min ferry ride from the main island.

Construction/demolition wastes are also dumped at Semakau but most of the time they are used to reclaim the shoreline of the main island and few offshore islands. it is estimated that Pulau Semakau can hold Singapore's garbage until the year 2045.
