My boyfriend and I both grew up with unusual names. While we both love the fact that our names are different now that we're adults, it was a royal pain in the butt growing up. Kids can be mean and believe me you get picked on because your name is not something they've heard before. Also, it's kind of a bummer when everyone has a personalized object and your name is never available.

We're now expecting our first child and he'll be named Chance. A little unusual but not completely out in left field.

Good luck!

sometimes names like that can make it difficult in life for them. Please choose carefully what you name your child. Other children can be cruel. I do think Island is a beautiful name. Also you might want to think of nicknames she would be called. I took have a unique first name but only in spelling. You will know what to call your baby the first time you see her. Congratulation are in order.

Island is strange. She'd probably be made fun of. I know a girl who's name is Sarai and it's pronounced Suh-Ray. It's a beautiful name. I call her Rai for short.

"Island" a very simple and unique name... But personally, I'd recommend "Sky" - I mean, whoever she would be in the future = sky symbolizes hope and freedom... and I think it suits every kind of human beings in this world whatever she might be. Right?

Or, Selah would might do. It means "reflect."

I don't think that is a very good idea. What if she ends up being chubby? She will be teased about her name to no end.

I'm not crazy about it, but it is your child. I happen to like Amara, it means "most beautiful" in Greek.
