You've got some very wacky answers there - LOL.
Seriously - cats personalities do change somewhat as they mature and they have other interests as well, so that may be part of the problem. As kittens mature they become a bit more independant and they have things to do, which don't always coincide with your schedule or need for smooching and loving on them. You may have to court him again, and offer more frequent but shorter smooching sessions - and most importantly - don't force him if he does not want to sit with you at that particular moment. I have adult cats that struggle to get down when you pick them up, but are totally content to sit or lay on top of me for hours when I am resting or reading... As long as they can go when they feel like it, it is nearly impossible to get rid of them at times...
The other one may well be hormones. If your cat is a not neutered male and an inside/outside cat, there are things to do, places to see, territories to patrol, and buddies to meet [or fight with - depending on the cat]. If it is an inside cat only and he is not fixed yet - he may be restless and moody because of his hormones. Get him neutered - this will make a big difference in the behavior, especially with inside only cats.

i have seven cats. some just get that way. it drives me crazy. i loved my first cat to death. i held him every second . now, he is five and will barely let me pet him. i think it may be a dominance issue. other cats love to be held. that's one reason i have Many, to get a variety of personalities.

My puppy is doing the same thing. They're growing, and they don't need as much nurturing as they used to. They're getting more curious about their environments, and they want to explore more. They're more confident in themselves. They still like to be held, but sitting still in someone's lap has become nearly impossible.

He's an adult now, he has a different personality. He still loves you, but it's like humans, you wouldn't hold a grown up person like you would hold a baby. It could be improper if you tried.

Your cat just out grew you, and doesn't need to be held as much anymore.

Cats are very intuitive and as the cat got older and got to know you better and doesn't like you any more.

Things change. You probably used to like playing with dolls, and you don't know. Cats, just like humans, grow up and change.

Adult cats love independence. It may also feel uncomfortable for your cat now that he/she is bigger.
