Muhammad does not know how to read or write.?

Why is this proof that Muhammad couldn't make anything up?

Why should we belive him and not Joseph Smith by the way? or David Koresh?

What do they have in common? they are a single point of failure, one man no witnesses no proof.

Actually Joseph Smith, I believe, wrote the book of Mormon. Many people have written many books like the Quran. Unless you are talking verbatim this is the flimsiest argument yet.

The common story all muslims mention about Mohammad not being able to read or write is not actually true and there are different facts which could support what i said. First of all, as we know Muhammad was in charge of all Business activities and tradings of his first wife Khadijah. Such responsibility required him to at least know how to read, write and do simple calculations. The other story which is mentioned in almost all famous islamic books is the fact than when Muhammad was about to die he asked for a paper and a pen to write something so Muslims won't deviate from the path of God. Such stories clearly show that he knew how to read and write but did not want others to know it so he could sell his stories better !

We do not care for the opinion of an ignorant. But never the less I will tell this for the other respected readers on this page.
At the time of Prophet Muhammad, Arabs were know , and were competing each other for being the best at the Arabic Language.
So Allah, send the Qura'an through a Man who was know to all, that he can't read or write. Then Allah challenged the Arabs to try and make one chapter or a verse equal to the Qura'an in it's strength and beauty of the Arabic Language.
Mow, more than 1400 has passed no one of the great scholars of the Arabic Language could come up with any thing like Qura'an.
How could a Man who never learned to read or write bring such a Book with such a magnificent language, this is called a Miracle, if you admit it or not, Those who know the meaning of any Language can understand what kind of a Miracle is this.
By the , the challenge is still on till the end of life...so think about it, you might be ..... to try it.

How can a man ,who cannot write or read, write such a wonderful thing? This is the proof. In the times of Mohammed , poetry was a very important matter and a man, who couldnt write or read, came with something , which charmed and fascinated every one listened to. No one could give it a name. Thay said:" It is not poetry , nor a prose, but wonderful." They were people who believed in it just because it sounds so different and magnificent. Rhythm and harmony of Koran can be easily recognized, so did Geothe or Bach and talked about its charm, although they were not muslims. Such a great art needs education and experience. A trader comes with a unique art piece. Consider this! Look! If you say that Koran doesn't have rhythm, harmony and deep literary art, so it is just because you never read or listened to it. It doesn't matter if you blieve in it or not! Like the quote in the movie "V for Vendetta" : Someone doesn't need to be a muslim , to see the harmony in the Koran!

And Mohammed never learned how to write or read. I read that one of you wrote Mohammed was able to write and wrote something before he dies. No, this is completely wrong information. From where did you get it? For all written works of the state , he had people called "Katip".

Before making judgment about Koran , read it! And use Yahoo Answers a place to learn new things or a place to get information, Not to attack other people's believes. Respect for diversity and thoughts and dialogue between all culture. That is my way to live !

God words collect in a book called Quran
Muhammad words collected in a book called Hadith

if u compare the Quran with hadith you will find alot of differences. Quran is a language that cannot come from humans.

also God challenged any humans from bringing something similar to one chapter of the Quran. and God explained by his words that "you wouldn't be able to do it" & "you will never do it". means you will not be able to corrupt my book. the same mistake of the Bible will not occur again to my book (Quran).

and what's more truthful than worshiping One God. you don't need a Quran to tell you that your God is only one. and you don't need a book to tell you that there is a day of judgment is coming. you think God created all this for fun? and all those murders and criminals will not be punished? oh yes indeed. take a look at hurricane katrina or tusunami.

you will not benefit or hurt God in any way. and you will not benefit me or hurt me any way. so listen to your muslim brother advice when they tell you that this religion is truly from your lord.

Muhammad isn't a super man to come up with all this religion by himself. and even super man cannot come up with it by himself. he was supported by God indeed.

1400 years ago. arabs don't even understand the process of cleaning your self. Muhammad teach them how to be clean and pure. before every prayer there is a certain process of cleaning ur self called (wodoo).
if you go to bathroom to bee for example, you need to wash ur penis 3 times with water using ur left hand. now, tell me this is not modern behavior of keeping ur self clean, plus using your left hand indicates more safety, because people usually shakes hand with their right hand.
