"yasya pujyate naree, tasya ramante devatah"
-Ramayana.

Translation: Gods chose to live where women are worshipped.

In India, women occupied a very important position, in fact a superior position to, men. It is a culture whose only words for strength and power are feminine -"Shakti'' means "power'' and "strength.'' All male power comes from the feminine.

During Puja or religious ceremonies a wife gets precedent and sits at the right side. A husband can not perform a yagya or any major Puja without his wife.

Legaly they get equal right of inheritence . They have full right over their own Womans'edowment and if a husband spends his wife's money in case of emergency, Ancient laws order him to return it with interest .

As a woman in a church that has a reputation for being anti-women, I can say that I've been encouraged to lead a cell group (on my own), to evangelise, pray for the sick (and seen them healed), and now I'm doing preacher training, along with 2 other women. The Bible tells men to protect women, look after them, and encourage them to grow spiritually. I used to be a feminist, now I get it.

SGI Buddhism teaches that there is no difference between men and women in becoming enlightened. Women are highly respected because they carry such essential capabilities for world peace in them.

SGI Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion, btw.

Sadly, my religion diminishes the role and purpose of women to where they are evil temptresses, bent on my destruction, so they must be subjugated into being brood mares for the state.

Talk about conflicted!
