What I'm saying is that people from the usa should open theri minds a little bit and see boyond their coutry. I'm not saying crossing your border illegally is not a problem. It is a problem and it is not right. I think people trying to cross the border illegaly should stay in their contry and try to do things better in their country insted of what they do. Crossing border illegally has made that people think horrible things about latins when not every latin is like that. I understand it's a continent with several contries. Just open your minds a little bit and look beyong your country, you are right people shouldn't be crossing your border illegaly, but stop being so narrow minded and arrogants.

The same reason that citizens of Mexico call it "Mexico" when it is actually "Los Estados Unidos Mexicanos" The United States of Mexico. So therefore The United States of America is "America". I dont want to say the whole thing all the time, it is too much. I am against people living in a pro-American, anti-anything else bubble, but I dont think that is the reason behind THIS!

That simply isn't true. The continent isn't "America". There is a continent of North America, a continent of South America and a geographical region of Central America. The only country with America in its name is the United States of America, which is often shortened to 'America.' If someone says 'America' no one is confused into thinking they are referring to Brazil.
Within the continents that make up the Americas, there are many separate countries each of which prize their own government, culture and borders.

I think thats the point of the person that asked the question, that we are the only ones that call ourselves Americans of all the people in the Americas. Although I know people from Argentina and other South American countries who say we should specifically say "North Americans" when refering to ourselves because they are also Americans, from south america. They think we are idiots for just calling ourselves Americans when comparing ourselves to latina american people because they are also American. So although they dont call themselves "Americans" they do consider themselves as such, only from the South part. But then we should be even more specific because Canada is also part of North America. So now what???

It's easier than saying we are United States of Americans silly! When the other people who hate us say they HATE Americans and want to kill them, who do you suppose they are talking about? Certainly not everyone from "Alaska to Tierra the fuego and the caribic"

You are trying to make it seem as though crossing our border illegally is not a problem & that the USA is part of SOUTH america...It is not!!! It may be one continent , but several countries with many different laws & BORDERS!!! As long as you are in ours... you will obey them!!!

My friends in Canada agree so what with you. They are North America -we are the States. South America has the American title.
But we do have land borders-Canada does too-its their land and no one can use it without the permission of the landowner. We all need to protect what is ours-for the protection of those who live there, and their children.

You are trying to argue semantics here. When people say they hate Americans, do you think they are referring to BOTH continents, or just the US? You and I both know they are referring to the US. While technically you are right, you still know what people are talking about when they say "Americans". By the way, not just people form the US refer to the US as Americans....

American is an English word. Yes, it is derived from Amerigo, but in its current form it is English. Are there any other countries in these two continents whose main language is ENGLISH besides parts of Canada? So, if Canada doesn't complain, neither should you.
The rest of you can be called Americanos if it floats your boat.

Because we're the only country in the whole New World with 'America' as part of our name. Nobody else calls themselves 'American'.
Getting all indignant about semantics is for peevish children.
