Dogs are scavengers -- if allowed to roam, they bring home and eat a lot of really gross things. Actually, many animals eat feces because there is still nutrition in them (which is why maggots can breed in manure -- thay have to be getting something out of it). My chickens used to eat all the rabbit droppings under the hutches when we had rabbits. One of my dogs also eats goose crap if she gets into the areas where these birds forage, asnd she will eat cat crap if I don't take it out of the cat box right away. It's gross but not harmful, although the dog can pick up worms so its a god idea to de-worm periodically.

Usually this indicates a nutritional deficiency. If the dog food you're feeding the dog is cheap and grain based (anything by Purina is crap) the dog will try to supplement what is missing from their diet by eating their poop. I have had dogs all my life and only feed them the cream of the crop dog food and never have they eaten their own poop, they may be scavengers but they aren't into eating their own crap

They aren't missing anything in their diet.. dogs eat poop.. Some think it goes back to the "wild" instinct to leave no trace behind, especially when pups are around.
A mother dog will eat her puppies poop from birth up until they are weaned. Often this carries on to the pups, who see it and learn it from their mothers.
Often the dogs will stop, but not always.. Do not yell at them, they will only eat it faster because they think you want it..LMAO.. I swear ya cannot make this stuff up!
Keep the area clean, that means picking it up as soon as they take a crap and that will help...
One piece of advice, just don't let them kiss you;-)

Its not a bad thing except the stinky breath they might puff all over you. Dogs eat there own poo generally because they are missing something out of there diet. If you take your dog to the vet get then to give him a blood test and tell you what they are deficient in then supplement the dogs diet to suit
good luck.

It's called Coprophagia. Dogs do it all the time. I have an 8 yr old lab that still does it. There is no ryhme or reason for it. You can try a home rememdy like putting pineapple in their food, or go to your local vet. They have medication you can give for a couple weeks to see if that breaks it. You can also go longer if needed. It doesn't hurt your dog, I just wouldn't let him lick your face.

Try to get a Drs. Foster and Smith catalog. They sell something that can be put in the dogs food that makes the feces taste more terrible. It is supposed to make dogs stop eating thier stool.

It is normal. Many dogs eat their own feces as well as other dogs, rabbit, cat, etc. Dogs sense of smell is so keen they can detect nutrition in what we believe is waste. Especially cat feces. Milk is a laxative for dogs & cats & best not given to them.
There a few products out that can be added to food to make feces bitter. Forbid is the name of one of the products. Also discipline, let them know it is not acceptable, use leash training for this.

A lot of dogs do that - it's gross but it won't hurt them. I think it's a primitive survival instinct. A starving pack of wolves in the winter would eat anything that might have nutritional value. If they're eating other dogs poop it could be a problem - they could get worms.

This is normal but you want to be picking up their feces afterwards so they will stop consuming. The reason they eat their feces is because once they eat and digest their food, there's times where nutrience is in the feces. The dogs smells it and will eat it. what kind of food do you have them on? e-mail me and I could give you advice, i worked in a pet store. I know my , uh ****. LOL

dogs do this, sometimes it means they are lacking a certain vitamin, or nutrient in their diet. mine does it to its fairly common. make sure that their diet has all of the needed vitamins n stuff. u can get this powder from your vet, that u sprinkle on the food to make it 'taste' bad. i wonder who tested it??? or u can just not watch, and dont let them lick u, thats what i do. i didn't want to but a powder
