I have a suitcase I need to use on a trip somewhere, but I can't find the key to the padlock which is keeping it closed. Is there any way to get it open without the key, excluding any violent solution (trying to hammer it would probably just break the zipper)?

Immediate help on this would be appreciated. I'm leaving very soon!

As stated cheap little locks are easy to pick or pop off.

I once used a heavy screwdriver to pry mine open. Didn't take that much effort.

However if you have a good one, and don't want to spend the money for a locksmith. It can be cut off. If you by some chance live close to the airport, just run (during a slow time) and ask TSA to cut it off. Trust me they have the tools!!

I wouldn't worry much about saving the lock, since you aren't allowed to use it anyway. Then buy a TSA approved lock later.

Have a safe trip.

I was really lucky, becuase I was able to open up the zipper clamps. and then, the lock, just slipped right off!
Than, I just unzipped the suitcase(backpack), ok
Now I have to tighten back the zipper clamps with a paliers, and then, just get a new lock, or zip lock, which can close it,
I did not have to go to the locksmith,
but I did try the paperclip first, but could not jiggle the lock to open it, I pushed it all the way inside the lock, but it did not budge, so, anyway, athanks for the help, and suggestions, amen-

You could just cut the lock off. Those little travel locks are pretty easy to break.

If you don't have one of the more expensive locks that actually uses a mini-key, you can use several things to open the lock. A paper clip will usually get you in, you could even go buy another set of locks and use the keys from that. But, it will only work if it is the less expensive locks, that have little, thin, all-metal keys. There are some that are unique to the locks are are harder to get in to.

A lot of schools have giant scissor-like things to cut locks off lockers. If you've got kids, phone the school and ask if you can bring in your suitcase and borrow their lock-cutter. Otherwise, take it to a locksmith (which is cheaper than having one visit your home).
