& playful, we just moved into a house with a large fenced in backyard that we thought he would love. He does but over that last 6 months he has started getting less playful. Before we moved here he had another dog to be with but when we moved (the other dog was a friends) he has no dogs to play with. We love playing with him but during the day he is all by himself, do you think a friend would make him act like he used to? Either way we love Rusty (the dog) just the same.

At 2 yrs of age, he has become an adult leaving his puppy ways behind. He is also missing his play friend and sad. He will get over it in time or you could get him another friend. Remember, a dog is a pack animal. You are his pack.

I am inclined to agree with the people who have said that your dog has outgrown his puppyhood. Sad, isn't it? Some dogs start to "grow up" around 18 months, and others it takes 4 or 5 years for all for them to harness all of that energy. My dog has just turned 3, and has just about turned into a cat. My husband is mortified, because she was his jogging partner. She will still go, but it has to be below 65 degrees, and he can't take the really long runs anymore. She apparently just lays down in the shade. I offered to get another puppy, but our 16 year old cat said no way!

It is natural for dogs to start to settle down as they get older, and 2 years old is young adulthood for a lab. He will probably continue to settle down more and more for the next two years.

He may still love to have a friend if you have the time and space (sounds like you do). To keep them compatible, try to get another dog that has a similar energy level, and remember that dogs like being together even if they're just chilling out together. They don't need to be wrestling and chasing to enjoy each other's company.

The supplements you are giving him may be causing the itching. If they are actually helping with the incontinence problem you can get some "hot spot" spray which is basically to help with the itching and not the cause. A sick pet can be a very arduous and demanding situation. Logic doesn't usually prevail in these type of problems. It's a balance for 1. The quality of life for your pet. 2. You and your husbands ability to provide the tlc to achieve the quality of life for the pet. 3. The emotional aspects of the whole situation. I'm sorry I couldn't have been more help because I have been through this a few times. Good luck to you and your best friend.

Maybe he's just getting a little older & more settled? Our dog changed alot between 2 & 3 years of age.

Also, please make sure there are no neighbor kids who are little punks. LOL Seriously. Our dog started freaking out everytime we put her in the back yard.

Come to find out, the neighborhood bully was shooting her with a pellet gun. *sigh* Some people!

After we took care of that problem, all was well again.

Best of luck to you & Rusty.

let me tell you the bull terrier is always ready for fun and games.they are full of fun they love to run, jump, chase balls, and play games, they usually love other dogs too..so your dog would have a great new friend when you get one of the bull terrier's..
we had to pay a small fee to the rescue club to cover small stuff..but it was nothing compared to paying a breeders fee ! ! !
the dog we got was only 9 months old too..they have them from puppies ( very hard to get, every one wants them) to old dogs who need a loving hand to settle and end their happy days...
and everything in between..so go and check out the rescue club..they are all great people..but make sure you dealing with a club who ONLY deals in Bullies..or they may not know them well enough to help you out...
GOOD LUCK
smile
and
Good Bless

Many times when a dogs behavior changes it means something may have gone wrong with his health. Perhaps a good check up is in order.
