I know this will sound silly but it does work good.
Heat up about 2 Tablespoons of a good cooking oil and make sure it almost hot and pour over just washed hair and wrap hair in plastic wrap then wrap a large towel around your whole head and leave on for about 30 minutes, then wash hair again and condition with a good conditioner. After leaving the conditioner on for another 10 minutes rinse well and lightly towel dry but not completely dry and let hair air dry then style as you would like.
Try to do this at least once every 10 days to 14 days and you should see a difference in how silky you hair will be.
I've done this for years and have no complaints here.

The only way I have managed this is no hair driers, no dye, no gel, no hair spray. It's hard, but worth the results if you want to take the time each day with it.

Also, I have heard that if you take some time between washings that the next time you wash it will be a lot smoother because of the natural oils building up. I find that I cannot part myself from my shower each day though.

If you want shiny hair, after shampooing finish your shower with a blast of cold water on your hair instead of conditioner, and the cold will seal the hair folicles and smooth the shaft. It works really well, though it's quite difficult to bring yourself to turn off the hot water in winter... good for your circulation as well. Hope that helps, maybe you were asking something different.

Home based ? Patene Smooth & Sleek seems to help me.
I have naturally curly hair, shampoo with the above and put a dab of the conditioner on wet hair, dry straight.
I have also gotten salon straightners for around $80.00, last almost one year (not like the old relaxers), hair is actually smooth and soft.

I use the minimal amount of shampoo when washing my hair...and only a small amout of leave in conditioner. Brushing your hair a lot will stimulate the natural oils in your hair and help condition it as well. I have also noticed that If I blow dry my hair on a low setting and use a brush it helps keep it smooth... and NEVER NEVER NEVER go out in the sun for a long period of time without conditioner on your hair!

I've read that Henna makes the hair really nice. You should be able to buy Henna based shampoo at a store like Wild Oats or Whole Foods.

Olive oil works great, as does ( surprisingly! ) mayonnaise. Leave either of those on for awhile, then wash your hair. After a few treatments, your hair should look a lot better and be more manageable.

Bed Head - After-Party by TIGI usually only sold in hair salons, but it is available in CVS drug stores around $18 a bottle - comes in a shocking pink plastic bottle. I have thick, fairly coarse hair and using this makes it silky and shiny. You just smooth it on dry hair and comb thru.

Rinse with cold water. Vinegar heps with shine. After you shampoo and condition. Conditioners...hot oil is good....you get what u pay for!
The vinegar also helps remove build-up which dulls your hair. Better for dark hair. If blonde use lemon juice...it's all about the ph balance.
