Despite some daft answers here I thin this is a good question. Its important to know if people are becoming more or less religious - or which religions are growing or declining.
Overall, religions are declining (in absolute numbers) but certain niche and 'new age' religions are increasing in numbers.
In the UK - more people wash their cars than go to church on a Sunday and I am one of them !
The reason for this decline is that people have more freedom of choice nowadays and don't need religion to explain or dictate to them how they should lead their lives - and this, in my opinion is only a good thing.

I agree to your "popular" word for religion - some people wear it as some kind of fashion thing - but on the whole it does seem like the flavour of the new millennnium.

No. I don't think it's more popular. It's just that we see more of it as it is used as a political tool to get more votes.
Drum up the worst about a group of people and see how many others line up behind you to get their shots too. This site is a prime example of that.

nah, religion is always popular. its maybe less popular today than it was 500 years ago, but that's only because atheists are no longer condemned or afraid to admit that they're atheists.

It's all down to controversy and celebrity!
Scientology due to Tom Cruise and his baby's birth, Catholicism and Opus Dei due to the Da Vinci Code etc.....

I don't think so, you might think so because maybe because we have a forum where we are interacting and exchanging ideas about religion. People have always been passionate about religion and they always will be.

People are searching for answers to all the madness that is around so, the obvious is to go for something new or spriritual.
They need to search for God not the latest fad.

No, I don't think it's any more popular necesairly, it's just that there is much more media coverage, and you hear more about it.
