lunch? dinner? or snack?
chips and dip are good starters for any time of day
a veggie plate from the grocery is good, too.
barbecued meats are good and easy, too. chicken marinated overnight in salt & pepper, vinegar and soy sauce, with a wee bit of sugar, is great for the grill.
green salad
large batch of pasta - spaghetti, lasagna or something, just make sure the sauce or dish needs to be kept warm for best taste.
garlic bread
fruit platter, birthday cake, ice cream for dessert
i'd cater if you were in socal...=)

Veggies w/ dip - powdered ranch dressing & sour cream
mix until well blended
Fruit w/ dip - fruit flavored yogurt & cool whip
mix until well blended
Both fruit and veggies can be purchased already cut for serving.
Angel Food Cake cut into bite size chunks and served w/ bottled lemon curd for dipping. Buy the pre made cakes (go w/ 2 for 30 guests)
Set up a taco bar - seasoned beef and chicken, all the asst toppings, hard and soft shell. Set up a george forman style grill to smush the soft shell in to make quesadillas. Allow for 3 per guest (at least)
or
Have a sandwich bar - deli sliced meats and cheeses, asst veggie toppings, condiments. Use different types of rolls (white, wheat, sourdough, mini crossiants, etc) purchased from the bakery section. (Allow for 2-3 per guest). Serve potato or pasta salad as a side (there are some great pasta salad mixes avaliable).
Get cupcakes made - lot easier than serving cake, plus you can have both choc and white!

'cheddar-cheese with grounded beef is best for flavor but use turkey. Always use olive oil, onion, garlic, paprika:this cheese is used from a simple can of Campbell's chadder-cheese soup, some times comes in jalapeno-flavor,serve with plain tortia-chips,the dip itself is spicy enough-it's filling and will be the first to go,and alcohol goes very well with-while the time is going by everyone won't be so starving and your food will last longer...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
