Look at each of the categories that fall under this broad heading Society and Culture and you will have answered your own question as to what does each one offer society? So, a better question might be what does your question have to do with anything at all? What is your contribution to society and culture? What is the point of yahoo answers and questions? What is its contribution to society and culture. If everything that is didn't have some form of contribution, either good or bad, do you really think it would be here? We don't understand the contribution of the atom and hydrogen bomb, what purpose did it really serve, other than to kill a lot of innocent people and put a world into fear that has yet to be lifted? So, as you see, society and culture is a basic way of saying things that apply to people and how it pertains - so I believe religions and spirituality has a major impact on society and is appropriately categorized.

Western society, laws, culture, etc, are all directly or indirectly influenced by religion. It's only very recently that people started to deny that fact.
Now some people would rather fight our historically JudeoChristian religious culture and instead would rather try to rewrite history and call evil good and call good evil. All this has already happened in the bible in much older societies such as Sodom and Gomorrah.
Christianity is a lot older than American culture.

Religion is very important to society, many great artists, scientists etc. were inspired by religious faith. Many of the worlds greatest masterpieces show scenes from the Bible or the Greek myths, many great discoveries in astronomy came about because people thought that studying the heavens would bring them closer to God.

To an volume, faith is sensible in in the present day's society. for instance on a private point the religious concept stimulates the guy to do particular issues that it would routinely would not do, especially on rehab centers. This even however, would not make certain faith as actual, even yet it does help a effect of such. on the different hand, while faith is injected into government and present day society usually it has a tendency to reason severe issues. in this you have Prop. 8, legalization of abortion, stem-cellular study, and human sorting out or cloning. issues which will help us, as a species to conquer deseases and additionally divides our society by ability of a individual religious history (you're appeared down upon as a muslim interior the US and you will't point out christianity interior the midsection east).

religion helps prevent chaos just as much as it might cause it,
Catholicism was founded on Aristotles ideas, and he stated religion was needed for those who do not care abbout the law but care about a higher beings law so a God was needed for harmony and justice in society , with laws like thou shalt not kill, but just like any other institution that becomes involved with political matters ,religion can become corrupt and morally bankrupt, for example the christian baptists at westboro protest funerals and hate america, this was not what aristotle had in mind, and puritanical values pretty much influence American culture , we are the most sexually repressed country as far as education and tolerance, we have the one of the highest teen pregnancy rates and abortion rates because we cannot discuss that stuff like other countries and we are one of the few countries that does not allow gay marriage and this is our culture which has some puritanical or religious roots, I think you would agree.

I challenge you to read the Holy Bible and ask God to answer this question for you as you read.
I pray that the Lord opens the eyes of your understanding, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
In the book of James, God promises to give us wisdom if we trust and believe that He will do it.
God also promises, in the Holy Bible, that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man or woman is dynamic in its working...it gets results! So, I trust that God hears my prayer for you and will answer in an awesome way.
See www.gospelcom.net for an exhaustive free selection of various translations of the Holy Bible (including in numerous different languages)...a truly magnificent website.

News for you: if it wasn't for those Christian creationists who fathered modern science (scientific method included), you wouldn't be posting here.
