The market, unions, and associated demographics decide the worth of certain job classifications. Jobs in demand pay more than those that aren't; it's as simple as that.
Now, PANCHA, what is the REAL point to your asking of this question?...;-)

Their were blacks in Los Angeles that were janitors they worked for a company and they finally got their pay up to 15 an hr, at least a living wage in California, then the Mexicans took their jobs for 6 or 7 an hr. Maybe if they could have kept their jobs in a few more years they could have made 20 an hr. but thanks to the Mexicans their out of work. I heard that on a talk radio show.

Do you mean 'menial' jobs? People should get paid a fair wage for their work. People who have little education are not going to get paid as much for their menial jobs like lawn care, housework, janitorial work, farm work, etc. People who took the time and had the money (loans, scholarships, work, parents) will get paid more for their work (doctors, lawyers, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, IT technicians, etc)
Remedial jobs? Not exactly sure what that is. Maybe, for example, a teacher who teaches remedial math to someone who can't get into a technical school until he passes the test. They probably make from $20k to $25k annually. Not great but better than some.

I think a job should be based on how much you have to do.Ppl at a bank make awesome money and don't do squat, but a construction worker works his butt off and gets paid nothing hardly.I guess that it doesn't matter if a person works hard and gets paid nothing---as long as the persons hispanic.Atleast thats what SOME ppl think around here.

Damn staright. The fact that illegals are willing to do these jobs for less creates "wage regression". It stiffles the ability of workers to negotiate for their labor and get better wages. The employers know that illegals have "no leverage" and cannot effectively negotiate for better wages. You know PANCHA, in some places janitors can make $20 an hour?

People should be paid fairly for the work they do, but that's it. Why would you pay a janitor $20 dollars and hour but pay a school teacher only $16? (just for arguments sake)
Jobs only "pay to scale," and I think that should apply to immigrants too.

Unfortunately, there are some jobs that are taken for granted. However, if janitors, refuse workers, etc. did not perform their jobs, this would be a VERY nasty world. We need to respect everyone for the job they perform...and they should be paid a living wage!

Aren't janitors paid $20 an hour? At least when you count benefits?
I guess they won't get it if people are willing to work for less...

Competitive would have to mean lowest bidder. Unless employers were forced not to hire illegals then wages would stabilize or go up. Of course the downside of this would be prices would rise and you would be right back where you are now. The hiring of illegals have dragged down the economy of the US. Until employers who hire illegals are fined and jailed it will not get any better.

Of COURSE they should be paid more!!! On one hand,YOU want people to be paid $20 dollars an hour, but yet you want MILLIONS of illegals to be given amnesty??!! You can NOT have it both ways!!! Those millions of illegals are FLOODING the job market!!! Do you think employers want to pay you $20 an hour, when they can hire illegals for $10??? I DON'T THINK SO!!!

your key word "competitive". What skills do you need to be a janitor? A college degree? Ya right.
