it is perfectly fine to do. I did both from the start in the hospital. I found that when I gave my son formula at night...he slept longer!

Yes it's safe. It's probaby not necessary though. Your body will produce enough milk so you won't need formula. If you choose to use it though, you can do both. Remember that if you use formula, then your baby won't require as much breastmilk... your body will start producing less. You body is amazing at making just the right amount for your baby. Supply and demand. I would hate for you to find you don't have enough breastmilk because you started using formula. This would cause you to use even more formula, therefore depleting your supply again.. It's a viscous circle. If you want to be able to go out and leave your baby with a sitter, I would suggest pumping and feezing extra milk instead of formula. Ultimately it's whatever works for you. God Bless

Breast-feeding the baby for at least the first 3 months will help the child's immune system. After that, they can be weaned onto formula. As long as your baby receives some breast milk during the first 3 months, there should be no problem;so yes, you can do both.

Yes, you can do both. While breast milk is best, plenty of healthy babies have grown on up formula, two of them being mine. :) I didn't produce enough milk to feed my older son, and found that I was supplementing with formula more and more, so I just started strictly formula feeding him.
Make sure if you do breast feed you tell your doctor about any prescription medications you're taking, and ask whether they're safe for the baby as medications do pass through from you to the breast milk. Good luck to you!

Yes, but be careful. Sucking from a bottle is less work than from a breast. The baby could get tired of all the work breastfeeding takes compared to bottle. So your baby might refuse you. You can always pump your breast milk and bottle feed your baby with it. It just depends on what you want.

Of course I did. As we all are I was a paranoid first time mom. When I would breast feed my daughter I was worried about how much she was getting enough, so when I was through I would give her a little formula to make sure she was full. It won't hurt at all.

Yes! Absolutely!
Our baby was supplemented with formula from 2 months on (he is 17 months, now).
We like the Nestle Good Start formulas, but there are several out there for newborns.

If you are worried that breast milk AND formula will hurt the baby, the answer is no. You can definitely do both.

Yes I had to do this as she wouldn't latch on right. Now she's on formula. Just make sure she's getting enough and it's a good thing she's still getting breastmilk.
