Try Newton hawker centre at Newton MRT station, walking distance.
I think it's being renovated, I'm not sure, but I'm sure the shops will be shacked up somewhere.

MY dad used to buy these wonderfully moist and freshly cooked Hokkien mee with fresh lime to squeeze over, wrapped in a dried banana leaf to add to taste and keep freshness.
It's delicious.
I'm not sure which store. Maybe Ah Heng or something.
