Seriously, don't do a traditional diet. It will end in failure. Actually the best thing to do to lose weight is eat. It is proven that more smaller meals during the day, help speed up your metabolism. So, make sure you have a good breakfast, something healthy like granola and yogurt. Then have a snack before lunch, like a banana. For lunch have a whole wheat bun and some salad. Then have another snack in the afternoon, like some juice, or fruit leather, or some carrots and celery. For supper, make sure you have protein. Beans, tofu or lean meat is the best. If you eat healthier smaller portions throughout the day, and exercise. You will lose weight, and be healthy!!

You must first consider why you have excess weight.

People [in general] put on excess body weight due to two factors.

1. Their daily calorie intake is in excess of their bodily requirements.

2. Coupled with this they do not exercise enough.


On average, an adult female requires 2000 calories each day to live. If you regularly exceed this amount you will gain weight.

If you exceed this amount regularly BUT have a very physical job or exercise sufficiently you may not put on weight as your body will burn off the excess.

To loose weight [and keep it off], you should first write a diary, over a period of a week.

You should include in this diary your daily routine ;

When you eat
What you eat
If you exercises
What physical activities i.e. housework etc.. you undertake
Where you are in your menstrual cycle [when your period is due you crave more sweeties etc..]

With this information, work out a where you could reasonably make alterations. The key here is reasonably, you must be realistic, set your goals to high and your more likely to fail.

The foods you really love should be included but as treats. For example if you really love cream cakes then allow yourself one a couple of times a week [a smallish one would be better].

Drink loads of water, people often carry excess weight because they a eating foods which act as directics [the food contains either too much salt or caffeine, this will make you retain water]. Flush out these directics and you will loose a few pounds without needing to reduce your food intake.

Generally a well balanced diet is what you should be aiming for.

Never skip breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day!

Avoid butter and margarine on bread, replace it with low fat mayo. You really won't miss it after a while.

Keep supper as light as you can.

Avoid high fat, high sugar products.

Ask a friend to go running/swimming with you a couple of times a week. Keep it manageable.

Control your calorie intake, balange your GI (Glyceamic index) and exercise regularly. Nothing new there. However, the best way to lose weight effectively and not having it come back is to be patient! Crash diets are only temporary solutions. You should aim at loosing about 2pounds/1kg per week, no more. Change your diet progressively, to build up good habits. Don't deny yourself all the things you like, but be moderate and reasonable about it (i.e don't eat a full chocolate bar, but just a little piece of chocolate) that way you avoid frustrations.

Best way to lose weight is to eat less amounts of food, bifurcating the same for 4-5 times daily. You can eat everything but limited. Ensure you eat nutritious food and healthy drinks for maintaining your figure. You may also do exercises, wherever possible walk, don't take bus or taxi. Keep your mind always cool. Go ahead and eat and enjoy, but in limits. Dont't worry, Be happy.

Healthy Eating and exercise are the only true way to lose weight and keep it off.

Eat sensibly, complex seed based carbohydrates, good fat and protien.

Balance your input/output calories, a defiect means you lose weight, a defiect of 500kcal a day would lose you one pound a week, best done through increasing exercise levels.

DON'T JUST EAT HEALTHILY!!! Eating healthily only, doesn't help. You need to eat LESS. My mum has learnt the hard way, don't overdue it though. Remember, you still have to eat to live!
