It's snob appeal. What used to be something that only rich people could afford, is now available in less costly forms. Maybe the very expensive kind is tasty, but I doubt it. The kind I've had is just O.K.

I have never had bitter caviar before. If you did there was something wrong. I love caviar, always have. Like the person before me said, it is the taste mixed with the texture that makes it so special. I LOVE the feeling of the caviar popping (I just accidentally wrote pooping and erased it...lol) in my mouth. There are breath mints like that I buy now because it reminds me of caviar when it pops! I like salmon roe the best. Spread it on a good crusty bread with some brie...yum! I still wouldn't die for it though!

I've never had bitter caviar. I am not rich, but I have had caviar on numerous occasions and I really like it. I like the taste and I like the way it pops in your mouth. Would I die for it? Of course not, don't be silly...

I love it! but I'm not quite sure I would DIE for it. It is the subtle mixture of flavour and the unique texture of the little eggs popping as your tongue presses against them that makes it so special. If your caviar tasted bitter it was not the good stuff so don't give up, try and get some quality goods.

I agree with you, Caviar is awful. I am very open minded when it comes to food and do enjoy alot of food that is considered on the edge. I have tried caviar in several ways and always come to the same conclusion, it should only be used as fertilizer for your garden.

I once went to a millionaire's party and they had big bowls of Red Caviar and Black Caviar, well I tasted them both and, yyyyuuuukkkk!!!!!!!!!!! That was the nastiest crap I ever had to scrape off my tongue!!!! I was gonna puke, but I grabbed a glass of red wine and rinsed my mouth out with it, then downed the rest of the wine and felt better. That Caviar was cold, bitter, lumpy and slimy! I might as well have pulled a fish out of the water and sucked it's eggs out of it! It was about the grosses thing I ever put in my mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not the taste, it's the PRINCIPLE, dammit.
Yeah, I've never tried it. Sounds yucky, though.
