It depends on a number of factors. First of which are you both in a monogamous relationship. In today's society it is very prudent and not frowned upon in the least to come right out and ask your partner. (Mind you this can be a sticky question; tact would be a good way to go.) This implies that you trust your partner to be truthful and this also implies that you trust them. If you have any doubts whatsoever, do not engage in anything that would be harmful to either of you. Then the whole protection thing comes into play. Both of you have to be responsible about this issue. Oral sex with a male can be done with a condom. Yes they even sell ones that have a pleasant taste so you don't have to worry about sucking on something that tastes like a balloon. That'll kill the mood in a hurry. Depending on your age, if you are a little hesitant to talk to an adult about this, for fear of a lecture or being judged, your best bet would be to talk to a neutral party. Say like someone at your neighbor hood pharmacy. They also now sell condoms for oral sex for the female as well. These also come in a variety of flavors. Have fun with putting them on, use your imagination, but most of all be safe. If you notice that say, your girlfriend, boyfriend, significant other etc... has a cold sore I would say the answer would be a definite NO. You can contract the same STD's by oral that you can through actual intercourse. HPV is one of the biggest out there. A cold sore is in actuality a strain of Herpes. Check with you family doctor on this one for possible treatments or ways to stay safe as well as protect your partner. Sorry this post is so long winded but reading through this might help you make an informed decision that could affect the rest of your life.

depends. If the one giving has an std, and they have the sores in the mouth, then the receiver get's a free gift. If the receiver has an std, then the giver gets a little more for desert than the giver wanted. But, that's true with straight sex also. Use a condom, at least that way your 80% better off not contracting something. Hope that helps.
