My friend had one sexual partner and had sex with him last night (which she regrets) and had unprotected sex, she would like to get an AIDS test done but what are the questions the Doctor may ask and what do they do? How long would the test results come back? (since she did have sex last night) and is there a free AIDS test around? thanks.

AIDS usually shows up positive 6-12 months after being infected. Your friend is going to have to wait till then to get tested. I have been tested a few times, and all they did was take a swab from the inside of my vagina and send it to the lab. It can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to get the results back (depending how fast the lab takes). They also might want to take a blood sample.

The doctor doesn't really ask you very many questions. She might ask if you think you were exposed to someone who had HIV/AIDS, how long ago, was it unprotected or not...things like that.

Unfortunately there is no free test. If you go to your OBGYN or doctor it is usually covered by the insurance, if you don't have insurance it can be pretty expensive. Good luck to your friend!

You or your friend should never under no circumstances have unprotected sex (unless you know that guy for years or you want to have children)...it's not only AIDS you might get there are other diseases too...
doctors ask how many sex partners you've had how many times didn't you use protection when you did it, that sort of questions...i think in most countries AIDS test are free - they take a blood sample and the results should be ready in about a week, don't know if it matters when you've had sex...

It will take at least a few weeks to be sure your friend has a negative result. I am a registered nurse and there is now an AIDS antibody test that will give you results that will tell you whether or not you have the antibodies for the virus in your bloodstream. Good luck!

if you had unprotected sex yesterday, its no use testing for AIDS as AIDS tests like ELISA turns positive only after a few years. What you can do is test the partner for AIDS. if he is showing test positive ur friend must take drugs for traetment. Even if your friend is not AIDS positive ur friend can take drugs which prevent the occurence of disease.
Its called Prophylactic Anti Retro viral therapy.
Dont worry, Contact your doc ASAP.

Go to planned parenthood or your local health department. They will do the test for free. The questions that they will ask will consist of the following:have you ever had unprotected sex?Have you ever shared needles or other drug paraphenallia?have you ever engaged in same sex relations?Have you ever prostituted yourself? How many sex partners have you had in your lifetime? Most clinics have started using a mouth swab to test for HIV,but your friend should be tested for all STD's so they will probably take a blood sample and do a vaginal exam.
